Migration 6-7 - What's Next

I think I am ready to ask some ridiculous questions...but here it goes.

What do I do next when Migrating from 6-7?

I followed the instructions to upgrade my Dolphin from 6-7 ...all was a success I'd say, for the most part! But now I have my original complete installation in /public_html and the new Dolphin 7 in a new directory in the same folder /public_html/d7 ...so now what would I do next to make the site live?

Do I overwrite the files in /public_html/ with the installation in /public_html/d7 and change a config in /public_html/d7?

Do I leave the files in /public_html intact or should I delete them?

Does the .htaccess file recommended to redirect missing URLs below still work if the original installation in /public_html is deleted?

I have an .htaccess file that was included in the migration that I will implement as per the instructions found here: http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/wiki/6.1.6to7.0

Thank you anyone! I am at a complete halt at this point without direction!

You'd replace your live site with the new one you installed and migrated the data to in the subdirectory. You don't overwrite anything. As for the rewrite rules, it's recommended you apply them so you won't be penalized by the search engines for the sudden change in link structure. You'll have to add these rules manually as instructed in the migration document. I also recommend you keep a backup of your old site at hand in case something very, very bad happens in which you must go back (but I'm just trying to scaremonger now).

OK so if I understand this correct...I drag my files in my subdirectory into my  /public_html? And if I do this do I need to change any configuration paths or settings that may be set to http://www.mysite.com/d7

You'll need to move your new installation into the root directory, but only if it's been cleared (no overwriting). You'll have to edit your /inc/header.inc.php file to reflect the new change in address and paths.

And as always, make a backup.

Seems easy enough...but I am an idiot in terminology "cleared", does this mean deleted completely ...you know the scary type of cleared?

You can just move your Dolphin 6.1.6 site into another subdirectory for safe keeping.
