Market Module Updates

Would it be possible to receive a message or email notification whenever a market mod I've purchased is updated. The software here should be able to trigger this. Thanks.

This is a great idea rodt!  Even just a little notification at BoonEx would be great I think ...

All modules should have a support forum on the BoonEx site and developers *should* (in my opinion) post a note whenever they've updated their modules.  If you subscribe to the support forums for all the modules you've purchased then, in theory, you will get module update notifications.  Though some developers seem to ignore their support forums (if they even have them), I've found that many of the popular developers (such as modzzz, AntonLV and Deano) are very good at posting updates in their support forums.

It would be great if all developers posted updates and I certainly appreciate those that do.  I've always suggested that while considering whether to purchase a module - especially when comparing two similar modules - that buyers look through each module's recent support forum posts to see how the developer supports that module... especially how quickly they've resolve reported issues.

I considered this, but discounted it for 2 reasons.

1. It relies on developers updating their support forum, as you stated.

2. I don't want to wade through a bucket load of irrelevant support forum posts (I have 40+ mods).

If you subscribe to the support forums for all the modules you've purchased then, in theory, you will get module update notifications.

I rather get one email to many!
For a lot of mods there is no forum info at all. And sometimes a module gets updated 3 or 4 times a week..
For me it's importent to know if it's wurth it to update the module.

If it's just layout and no core changes then i want to know... don't you?

For the record... could/should the module update notification process be improved... yes!  I never bothered to state that earlier because I thought it was obvious the OP's suggestion was very good.  In the meantime, while we wait for BoonEx to improve the module update notification process and unless someone has a better suggestion, I'll continue to subscribe to the module support forums to get whatever info I can about known issues and changes suggested or made to modules that I own.

unless someone has a better suggestion

What is wrong with the current way to check for updates?

This way is easier to me than looking here at the market all the time.

Do you receive an *email notification* of the updates or do you have to *manually check* via the Admin Installed Modules page?  The OP's comment was "Would it be possible to receive a message or email notification whenever a market mod I've purchased is updated."

Because it is unreliable.

1) It only works on Dolphin 7.1.4

2) It only works if the new version is released, packaged and marked as a update in the market entry. If it is marked as a main version it will not show up as a new version when checking in dolphins admin.

Because it is unreliable.

 So is everything else here.

This works fine for me and my clients.

I see that, but do you realize how many times I have received Boonex updates via email that are very easy to overlook.

I agree it would be better.

Someone not using 7.1.4 is not current anyway.

What is that supposed to mean?  Do you think that all developers have stopped supporting earlier versions?

What is that supposed to mean?

 There are reasons for updates.

I still run into clients at 7.0.x; security issues is my concern, that is all.

Everyone, I do agree with the OP.

I was mentioning that option because it seems most don't know about it.

Hopefully this is one of the future market updates.

What is needed for the update in the Dolphin Admin is to remove the current way.  As Deano mentioned, it is unreliable and the module has to be packaged in a certain way and most developers package both 7.0 and 7.1 in the same zip.  So there may be updates to the module that the Dolphin Admin update checker would missed.

What is needed is a way for developers to mark that a module has an update and the Dolphin Admin can read that instead of the current way.  Most modules have to be manually installed so the auto updater is simply not going to work.
