I am certain this can be set but where? config.xml?
In order to translate text, it must be selectable.
Also, those who want to save a session of chat will be able to
Much thanks in advance!

Hi All: Is there a key to be added to the settings.xml file? Similar to:

Default Font Size (pts)

There are dozens of browser extensions which enable instant translation. The text, however, must be selectable. I am certain that there is a setting for this in some versions of Flash. "selectableText" or something close to that. Help! |
The text is already selectable. I don't believe Google Translate can translate Flash apps. You can translate the actual apps via their language files, but user input is probably out of the question. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
Hi Nathan. Thank YOU for looking at this issue. Actually, the text is not selectable in that it cannot be copied to the clipboard. In Mac OS X, I just tested it in Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera. It does indeed appear to be selectable but it can't be copied from the chat box.... Unless. imo, one simple adjustment is made. Somewhere, the "selectableText" setting can be turned to off or on. The default is obviously "off". So, none of the browser extensions (add-ons) to instantly translate text from a webpage become non-functional. Help me, brother! : ) |
To repeat what Nathan said, Google translate doesn't work with text that is part of a flash object. The translate function would have to be built into the flash app itself using the Google translate api My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Allow me to clarify... I see and agree with regard to Google Translate, which I had no intention of using and did not mention. There are, however dozens of browser add ons that take text from the clipboard and translate it instantly in a pop-up box - with just a keyboard combination or a quick click of an icon. Some of these also work by allowing the user to simply select the text (without copying to the clipboard.) Other browser translation extensions allow selected text to be entered (pasted) into a text box where it is translated. Considering the multi-lingual audience of many Dolphin sites, making chat text truly selectable would have some advantages. And to Nathan: Just changing the site-wide language, for example, to Russian would not, obviously, benefit a Chinese person who was trying to communicate with a Russian. :-) Help me! |
Just tested the chat module, and the text can be selected and copied/pasted without any problems. So I'm afraid I don't know what you're trying to accomplish here. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
