Licensing Clarification

First off, we have 2 licenses, so I can run two dolphin sites legally. But as a curiousity, and since it has been brought up before, I wanted to get a better understanding of a specific scenario.

So, we all know that you should have a license for each site that you want to (and for simplicity sake, we will just say) "register". I was told a long time ago that a site within a site can get away with not having a license. So, that is what my question is in regards to.

Scenario 1

  • Site 1 is at /home/cpanel_user/public_html
  • Site 2 is at /home/cpanel_user/public_html/site_2
  • Site 2 is not an added domain to the cPanel

In this scenario, is it ok to run a site within a site and only have the license in site 1?

Scenario 2

  • Site 1 is at /home/cpanel_user/public_html
  • Site 2 is at /home/cpanel_user/public_html/site_2.com
  • Site 2 is an added domain to the cPanel

In this scenario, is it ok to run a site within a site and only have the license in site 1?

I am asking this question, for a couple of reasons. FIrst off, I will be using the second scenario, and need to know if I need to purchase more licenses for added sites that I will be setting up (app. 3 more). Also, I was having problems with a module. Although it says that sites must be on same server, I have found that because of file permissions, group and owner permissions, open_basedir, and some other issues specific to my server because of the added security to maintain HIPAA compliancy, in order to use the module in question, all sites must be in the same cPanel, not just on the same server.

It is only depending on the domain, if domain name is different (including subdomain) then you need different license.

It is ok to have several Dolphin installations on one domain in different subfolders registered with the same license, for example: site.com/dolphin1, site.com/dolphin2

A few more questions:

A - What exactly does the Prime license do for me?

B - How many licenses does that give me? (We already have 2 licenses.)

Prime includes a Dolphin license, source code license for mobile apps, premium membership, and a free install. If those extra benefits don't interest you, I'd stick to the standard license - there are discounts on both when you have more than one.

I read that page, and was not exactly sure my interpretation was correct, so wanted to make sure before purchasing the Prime License. For us, being able to rebrand the mobile app (once we get to that stage of development) will be the biggest reason for purchasing the Prime License. I just wanted to know what other benefits - especially in regards to licenses - that we would get.

So, are you saying that upgrading to the Prime would give us an additional license - since we have 2 now, would it make it 3? Because if the Prime is counted as a 2-license purchase, would that mean I would get 2 additional licenses?

I believe Prime only includes one Dolphin license these days. You can also buy the mobile apps license separately - but the price of a standard license and mobile apps combined end up costing about the same as Prime. If you only need the mobile apps license (you already have a standard license), just buy them separately and save a bunch of dinars.

Both the standard license and Prime include bulk discounts. For example, first price is $799, then $499 for the next few, and so on to an extent. For more information, check the discount links under the license overview.

For a discount on Prime after already buying a standard license, you'll have to ask BoonEx.
