Janrain integration in the next Dolphin?

Would it be possible to have a complete Janrain integration instead of just the Facebook in the next releases for Dolphin?  Optional of course...

There's a Janrain extension in the market.

I had this module, but ditched it.  All it does, is make it easier than ever for people to create totally useless user accounts on your site.  In my opinion, if people can't take 2 minutes to go through your standard join process, they probably have no interest in being an active member of your site.  However, if thousands of completely useless database records appeals to you, this is a good integration.  I can say that I have signed into quite a few different site with FB login, to post a single comment, then those sites never saw me again.  I'd bet the majority of people that sign into sites using FB login or similar, do so for the same reason I do.

Actually Houston, that really does sound right.  I never thoughts about it that way..  Quality vs quantity.

When I started the never ending Dolphin tale, I thought the best thing to do was to make it as easy as possible for people to join my site.  I had Janrain installed, and email confirmation turned off.  It made it easy alright.... I had useless accounts from all over the world.... not what I wanted.  These days, I'm just waiting around for a version of Dolphin that doesn't embarrass me every time I show someone my site.  This platform still has serious issues that make it impossible for me to say, "The site is ready".

I bought one of the Janrain login modules.  Seemed like a good idea when I was first learning about Dolphin.  I installed it during the initial testing phase... a few weeks later I uninstalled it after I realized how much extra time it was adding to the page-load process.

Along a similar vein, I purchased tSocialShare, but quickly found out that it is not compatible with illbellodelweb's 3 column module so I ditched it.

After looking at the previews of Dolphin 7.1.0 I am starting to ask myself if uninstalling the 3 column module is worth having the syndicated posts shared on multiple websites (not just facebook) of tSocialShare?  Will 7.1.0 be an answer to both the interface, user experience and make it even easier to share on multiple sites (specifically status updates)?

Only time will tell.

@Houston:  I remember you used to run a social concept in Houston right, and that over 700 days ago (LOL) using D6+ I think..

I run a site on Social Engine, and it needs major help out of the box compared to Dolphin, particularly in design and speed..  It's why I reverted back to Dolphin for a project...  out of the box, and price wise, it is so much better compared to SE

Yep, I first started the site using D6.  I had some friends sign up rather quickly, only to hear them all complain about no privacy settings, no photo albums, and no lots of other things.  It didn't take long to find out that what I had in mind would never get off the ground based on D6.  Realizing that I had to see what D7 brought to the table, I tried my best to influence what core features were needed.  The main ones were privacy settings, and the ability to organize media into albums.  As we all know now, D7 was just the trial run at developing a robust social platform.... one where they learned from their mistakes at everyone else's expense.  I barely remember why I wanted to start a site in the first place.  I think it had something to do witrh the mass exodus from Myspace, and Facebook sucking in all the refugees like a black hole.  The timing was right to start something different.  Now the time has passed, and I'm not sure it's worth it anymore.  Fortunately, it doesn't cost much to pretend I'm still in the game... I just have to figure out what the game is now, because the first one is long over.  For most opportunities, timing is everything, and there's something about waiting three years for the the right platform, that really screws up the timing of things.

Three years later, I still don't have skinnable flash apps, a sensible activity feed, and a non-member can log into the chat and bring it down several different ways.  I am convinced that Rayz is one of the laziest persons on the planet.  Three f*cking years, and he can't manage to service the support ticket that I wrote requesting flood control for chat. (I believe he has a paid mod for that now).  Rayz is an old school guy, that apparently bases what paid mods he does, on the tickets in trac.  If I were Boonex management, I'd have ditched all these kindergarten versions of flash apps years ago, and hired a developer that would have taken them a little more seriously.  Any current Dolphin site that needs a grown up version of chat, has to add the third party system.

To build a decent site with D6, you had to add a ton of third party functionality, and you ended up with Frankensite.com.   Not much has changed.

Well, you can always just run Cometchat for now?

Look at social engine and see if that works for you..  Their new version seems like a trial also, but out of the box, its bare.  With all modules extra to buy.  It has plenty of addons, but lacks in the design department..

Their old 3.x version is pretty decent though, if you can still download it...
