Installation of Software Dolphin 7.1 errors!

Ok... I have been at it for about 6 hours and have come to no conclusion to why I can't even get to the Index.php install. I get a 404 error. When I purchased this software it came with one free install, so how do I go about getting this done? I went to the ticket request, for installs and that makes no sense to me, whatsoever.

I have purchased the Prime key and mobile.

For install I am using the pre install that comes on the server from Boonex. Which is provided by softaculous. It is the latest version.

I have installed and reinstalled and no fix. I am using the Arvixe servers for hosting, which is supposedly setup up for this very software (Dolphin).

It has been a long while since I have attempted this job, lol. I had a previous copy of Dolphin many years ago, that was full of glitches and did not work well. (About 8 years ago) So I am attempting this again.

Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance.

For some reason using the one click install is not always great and can cause issues!

Start again and try doing a manual install ...

I have an Arvixe account for Dolphin testing but I agree that it won't be suitable once you get a production site going.  Just as a test site it can be troublesome and I am thinking of dropping my account at the end of the year.  The other day I went to ftp up some files and I kept getting disconnected from the Arvixe ftp servers.

If you want to continue with Arvixe for now I suggest that you download the zip of 7.1.4, upload that zip to the server and extract it out using the file manager in cPanel.  I don't know if you can download directly from boonex to your server or not; I don't use cPanel much.  Now, it will extract out to a Dolphin directory.  Using file manager, change into the Dolphin directory and select all the files and then move them to the webroot.  Or, if you are planning on using a different domain name, then you can leave the install inside of the Dolphin directory and point your vhost in cPanel to the Dolphin directory.  The idea is to avoid a URL as http:mydomainname.com/dolphin (there have been posts here in the forum about moving dolphin from the url)

Create a database in cPanel or use the one that was created with the softaculous install.  Then do a manual installation.  You will need to change the permissions on the files as outlined in the help (HELP link above).

Yes, you did get a free installation as you mention with your Prime license but it will probably be sometime later in the week.  There are no one from Boonex working on the weekend days (Sat and Sun).

There are a few incongruities here that I don't quite understand. You mention that you can't even get to the index.php install, and then you say you are using a softaculous installer.  It's not clear to me what you mean by the "index.php install".  Can you elaborate on that?  I don't want to make any assumptions.

Historically, the biggest problem people around here have had with Arvixe, is that they are directed toward Arvixe's shared hosting, from the Boonex hosting menu on this site.  Arvixe's shared hosting is good for nothing more than a place to install Dolphin, and get your site working.  It is not adequate for a live site, but neither Boonex or Arvixe make that clear when people sign up for it, and those Arvixe customers expect that they will be able run an active site on Arvixe shared hosting.  Then when those Arvixe shared hosting customers try to run a live site, that site hogs more resources than permitted by the shared hosting terms, and they are urged to upgrade their hosting plan.  There's where the typical rub is.... it's comes across as a bait and switch scam.  If Arvixe would be more up front about the inadequacies of shared hosting, there would probably be no complaints about Arvixe.   If you got one of those $7/month hosting plans from Arvixe, don't expect much.  If you got something better, you will probably be OK.

You're using Softaculous to install Dolphin? That could be it - I recommend not using automated installers. There was a time when Softaculous was churning out corrupted files, and I haven't trusted it since.

You're better off installing Dolphin yourself. If you do need a helping hand, feel free to shoot me a PM. I can also install it at no charge since you bought Prime. For BoonEx to install it, you can open an installation request tick here: http://www.boonex.com/help/tickets

Ok guys. I think I got it. I just went and did a manual install, and all seems to be up and running fluidly. I will see how it goes from here. It must have had something to do with the auto installer. Cause I had no issues at all with the manual install.
