I want to 86 dolphin login and replace it with FB registration app

i want to 86 or really minimize the dolphin login process which i have become truly disgusted by . There is no need to list the problem we all have had with the login form

Also i have come to terms with the 800 pound gorilla  in the room, and if you can't beat em join em  so now we have decided after trying all the wack social connect mods which all seem to have some flaw

to maybe turn the registration process over to facebook

So we pose a few question to boonex community seeking  advice and direction  thanks in advance  and any  idea or comment is appreciated

1 is this a crazy idea

2 what are the pros/cons

3 is there a real good social connect mod out there and don't say jainran we have it and we can't get it to fetch profile photo

4 has anyone tried this and how does it work for you

Hmmm. Interesting. That registration social plugin from Facebook must be brand new. I looked at the social plugins not more than a month ago, and it was not there. I will have to play around with that. May be a viable alternative to the many Facebook connect modules in the market. Mine included.

Now as for Facebook connect not retrieving photos. Have you tried the default boonex module? Does it set a avatar using the facebook photo?

Also does your site require any form of validation after sign up. Admin approval or validation of email address. Reason i ask is under those conditions only an avatar can be set by any Facebook connect module. A profile photo cannot be and that is because the photo module in dolphin does not allow photo uploads for accounts that are not yet active. An account pending approval is not an active account so photos cannot be uploaded. This will restrict what Facebook modules can do.

My Facebook connect module has a photo album import feature which will not function if the site requires any validation of the account.

The default boonx facebook connect does pull the avater  but its  major problem is the registration is not complete potential members still have to go back and fill out the login form some members are under the impression that they can use their facebook credential to log into our site which is not the case and after trying they just say the hell with this site and move on, also we have tried this in a shared access point environment and found that although members are login out there pages are still open even if they log out of face book they only way to avoid this is  by deleting the cache (really)

as far a validation yes we have a code give by you deano 92964  which forces members to validate their email it works fine no complaint  but its a catch 22 we want those profile photos and we want correct and true emails.

i wonder if the FB registration  will actually create the account and also pull the profile photos and albums info

another thought is will this if we solely use this feature  help reduce the amount of spam

Unlikely. If it were possible i would have done it with my facebook connect module already.

The problem is not pulling the photos from facebook. I can do that and i am sure the social plugin you are looking at can as well. The problem is getting the photos into dolphin. Passing the photos to the photo module to be imported into dolphin is normally how it is done, however as i mentioned, the current version of the boonex photo module will not upload or import photos for accounts that are not active yet.

You can create account with it. Will of course require custom programming as all the plugin does is pass the information back to your site. You will have to deal with the information as any regular facebook connect module does.

The only way to get photos into dolphin on inactive accounts will be to bypass the photo module and do it yourself in custom code.

Now will it reduce spam if you use it exclusively? Some, but i have actually had a few spammers signup on my site using facebook connect, so....

It should reduce it though. I have not seen many use facebook to connect.

At closer look at the facebook registration plugin, it does not appear as if it deals with photos at all.

we used anton's profile splitter, and facebook api, when a user would opt to join from facebook, not sure about images and what not, i dont recall, seems it did pull avatars, but it was a registration from FB, not just a login.

i would share the url but need to ask the owner, and see if its ok. but the profile types splitter worked a frigging treat, in conjunction with the janrain from martinboi

since that email has to be established and confirmed in order to have an account on linkedIn, or FB, then there is no problem with the verifcation.

@deano92964

yeah looking at it i don't see it fetching profile photos  but could you create a hack code that would call photos

excuse my ignorance but i'm not a programmer

Yes. Depending on your skills. Once logged into facebook, photos, albums and a number of other things can be obtained with either the PHP SDK. or the Javascript SDK using the graph API.

The PHP SDK is used by the default boonex facebook connect module and by mine.
