Are you using the default 'uni' template, or something else?

I added a photo to my home page background like this. You can find a wallpaper color or wallpaper photo online and upload it to a site you want to store it on. Just play around with sizes to see what works best.  Just go to file

(you folder) /templates/base/css file common.css

located at the top

body {
font-family:Verdana,Arial;
font-size:11px;
color:#333333;
background-image:(http://where your photo is parked);
background-position: Center;
background-repeat: repeat;
background-attachment: fixed;
margin:0px;
padding:0 0 50px 0;
}

Once you change it like this be sure to clear the cache in the admin and refresh the home page. You can change this anytime now with little effort.

Hope this helps

I was on my way to steering him away from modifying default files.  It's a bad habit to acquire.
