How do I get profile photos instead of avatars?

Hello there.

Like many other I am trying to replace the avatars on profiles with the photos the users upload, but none of the suggestions I have found in other posts on this subject seems to work.

Site: http://www.educatedsingles.com/global-site

I have enables GD Library

In Advanced Settings->Profiles I have set member thumb and member thumb icon to "profile photo"

In Advanced Settings-General I have de-selected "Enable Last-Added Item As Album Cover:"

I have installed both the Photos and Avatars module

Yet I don't see the member's photos on e.g. Featured members on the print page, neither when browsing their profiles.

Any help will be appreciated. What am I missing?

Kind regards

Finn

Just uninstall the avatar module, Dolphin will then use the profile photo for the avatar.   You can also adjust the size of the thumbs in the backend; but realise that if you increase the sizes you have to adjust the template/CSS for the division that holds the thumbs.

Oh, you have to keep the photo module installed; install photo module, DO NOT install avatar module.

Dear GG,

I have tried this as well - still the same result. Just tried it again and cleared all cache And even when I go to my own admin profile the "profile photo" section is empty (see attachment). It is just impossible for me to get a photo in there...

All the best

OK, I thought you were talking about the thumbnails but you are talking about the Profile Photo box; that is different.  The box pulls out the first profile photo; the code limits the return to just one photo.

PM me your site and let me create an account and see what happens when I add a profile photo.

Hello GG,

The site is www.educatedsingles.com/global-site

The problem is both with the profile photos on each profile and the icons e.g. on the featured members section on the front page

I will take a look but I caution about posting your URL to your site here in the Boonex forums because these forums are indexed and crawl by bots.  Posting a site URL here could help spammers to find your site; this has been mentioned before and no I can not say for sure if spammers find Dolphin sites by the Boonex forum or not; there are many ways to look for a specific platform.

OK, I created a test profile, please activate my account so I can examine the site.  When I am finished I will let you know so you can remove the account.

When I click to upload a photo, I get access denied.  Do I have photo upload privileges with my membership level?

Just checked. "Photos add" is enabled for all membership level including non-members

Very interesting things going on.  I logged back in and when I went to my albums it said I had zero albums.  I thought Dolphin automatically created the profile photo album when a person goes to their albums after creating an account.  Then it appeared to have created the photo album for me anyway.

Do you have it set to where admins have to approve photos before they appear on the site?  If so that might explain why my uploaded photo did not appear.

Yes I do. Admins have to approve photos, which I have just done for yours

You have some serious issues going on with your site.  Will communicate by PM as there is no need to continue this thread.

I had the same problem, but solved now. Uninstall the avatar module and every new profile will only show photo's instead of avatars.

Former profiles will still show avatar as picture name, but you can replace that name.

I uninstalled Avatar and new members still do not have a profile photo.  They show a small photo under where multiple photos would list, but when you click on it... there is nothing suddenly.  The albums are empty!

I will pay for help.  Former mebers that were "converted" in from 6.1.6 have everything showing.

I have an answer!

Apparently, if the setting were not right before an upload, the profile is screwed unless you go into the database.  I have yet to find where to code it.  On mine, the problem is there is no where to approve albums, you you must set it to:

  • Delete the Avatar Module
  • Set (click)  Auto-approve album creations in Advanced settings  (Without albums, nor profile pic)
  • Go to Modules/Photos/Settings and un-click Auto-activation for files (A misnomer if it wasn't for location). This protects you from having open albums full of bad pics.
  • Use the Profile Picker in the page builder as your main (That's what i did - but you may not have to).

It's just a matter of settings.  Now if anyone knows what to set in the DB for all the missed photos, I am open!
