Have a need to change base password encryption

Hello all,

I have a need to change the base password encryption in D7.0.9. Just the password checking, NOT the actual creation.

For the life of me i cannot remember which file has the password checking code in it. Guess i am suffering a loss of memory - laugh.

Anyone point me to the correct file I would really appreciate it.

Actually that was pretty cryptic: the file and code I am looking for contains the actual checking mechanism as in 

sha1(md5($pass).$salt); for the password checking process, NOT the creation.

Sorry, thought that would make more sense.
