I would like to have a forum posts block on homepage like the blogs block(with avatars). Is it possible to build this with a PHP block? Can somebody give me a piece of advice? :)

It's already there after installing Orca from the modules page. You can manage page blocks from Administration > Builders > Pages Blocks.
