They did it again. Besides now allowing people to post snuff films, beheadings and the like, they have changed the entire embed code once again.
You can no longer embed videos from Facebook into a forum post. It now breaks the site..... NOT TO MENTION that the video embeds now seem to have a timer on them. they only last a week or so at which time the link goes south and you get the dreaded can't find the video error message .

They're getting a lot of bad press at the moment, even the PM here in UK has spoken out against them!
I think someone or a group should go to their HQ armed with a bunch of projectors and start broadcasting images live from facebook onto their own building. Show all the stuff they allow broadcast that shouldn't be on a site where the min sign up age is 13...
Press would be all over it and I don't think they could legally stop you doing that?
Not sure about laws on public broadcasting though... even though its a free to view website with public content...
I don't like using the site, communication on there is so superficial. Some half decent 'groups' attempt to make a go of proper online 'community' but its not an ideal setup for that really. They just seem to want to keep as many people on the site to expose paid adverts to these days. The actual setup is not the best for what people 'think' the site allows them to do anymore!
Would be great to have a proper community site really take off but the hill is sooo steep to climb these days unless you are restricted to niche.

that is why i don't understand why so many dolphin sites stick to all the FB things (modules) here!!
what makes FB so special..??
FB sucks!! Build your own great site and attracked people to join your site and make them leave FB behind...
|
agreed, but FB is also good for marketing on to get traffic... FB login makes it quick to join your own site, also having FB 'share' buttons on content etc...
I've had sites out before and ran surveys with friends, interested users etc... one of the recurring things that gets fed back all the time is people find filling out another 'join' form long winded... even though its only a could of clicks and a but of info etc..!
People seem to want instant or as little effort as possible these days. lazy lot...
So, FB connect can be handy as an easy option for the lazy FB users...
end of the day, if it gets people to interact (hopefully) on your own site, then they may stay and start to own it.

If you think for one minute that people will leave FB then you need to visit a sanitarium my friends.... What makes FB so special???? How about 1 000 000 000 users for a start.... The problen is that FB has made its users into sheeple that are now socially compliant and , to be honest, addicted.
You are never going to beat FB and you are never going to get people to leave FB in favour of a Dolphin site. Stick with your neiche and do your best and dont give up is all that you can do.....

The number of people on FaceSucks is irrelevant to the users; why would one care about the 5 million people they don't know? All that matters is how many in your list that you actually care about and are using the site. Geeks, making the world a better place |
Yes, FB has lot of users and they are all addicted to nothing!! who cares if your friend farted in the shower and he posted it on FB :-) FB is changing and you only see what they want you to see. Even the search is based on likes and tags and what they want you to see... first it was the world, then it was a part of the world and now it's local. (If i want local: i'll read the news paper) And another thing... FB never lets you reach all the users anymore like in the beginning. We don't have to beat FB... we just want a place where real people share real things that is useful to others.

You got a friend that farted in the shower? Can I have the link?
LOL.
I have over 3000 'friends' on that beast. All day long I get crap. I get it in my email, i get it on my phone and your right, 99.9% of it is just useless garbage..... But then again, where am I gonna get a video of a Raging Bull trying to F a motorcycle?
I will say this, I posted a note about the entire thing and I even called Zuckerberg out in it. I will stick to my guns. I am removing ALL my family connections and anything personal. I am also blocking all the countries that I have no use for in my newest online business venture (which is most if not all countries except America where I live). Use FB for connections, then do business with them elsewhere......
If you want to see my note ... you can visit it here...

It's time for Boonex to take out Facebook. |
It's time for Boonex to take out Facebook.
It will never happen... But do the best you can with Dolphin. I do think it is the best CMS.... You just need a decent market tied to a specialist nieche..... and the finance of a small continent.... : )

It would be best for the children of the planet if each government banned anyone under the age of 18; or are still in public school, from being on Facebook. That also goes for twitter and any other social network like them. Geeks, making the world a better place |
If people left Facebook, then what are all the doctors making big money going to do who have paitents that suffer from FAD (Facebook Addiction Disorder)? I mean, if FB was to go offline, the 350 million people who 'supposedly' suffer from this would be instantly cured i guess.
Yes, there is really a 'disorder' named after it. http://www.healthism.com/articles/facebook-addiction
I guess we should go ahead and create DAD (Dolphin Addition Disorder) and BAD (BoonEx Addition Disorder). Would that make me a BAD DAD? I personally think I am a great dad :)
Nothing to see here |
SkyForum,
I deleted my account with Facebook almost three years ago for a few reasons. As you mentioned is one of them.
Zarcon,
LOL! Almost three years, do I miss FB? Not one bit. When people ask me if I'm on FB, my usual response is, "Hell No."
Off the subject, I also boycott Amazon because they were selling pedophile's guide book which is now removed but keeps another.

I started getting drunk when I was 13 and getting h*** when I was 14. Lost my "V" when I was 12. I believe people are adults when they hit 12 like I was but the government teaches people to be robots and to follow a system that never makes them rich.

William James Sidis (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
Born in America in 1898, William James Sidis was a wunderkind extraordinaire, gifted with an astounding IQ estimated between 250 and 300. This polyglot went to a grammar school when he was only 6 years old and graduated just within 7 months.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, at the age of 9, he was already a Harvard student, but since he was too young, he was advised to take a couple of years off just to give his personality some time to catch up and be on a par with his intellect. At the age of 11, he became the youngest student to have ever enrolled at the Harvard University. He graduated cum laude at the age of 16, and entered Harvard Law School at 18.
So you are saying we should restrict people like this guy because he is "too young" to drive?

My parents tried to tell me that I was too young to do things, so I just sneaked out every other night to hang out with my friends when they went to bed. Restricted me from having a computer, no license, etc. Age doesn't mean anything. People should have a full high school education by age twelve. |

The fact that you "sneaked out every other night" speaks volumes. Of course there are exceptions but the majority of children do not posses the maturity to make rational decisions; which is why 14 year old girls sneak out to parties, accept alcoholic drinks, get drunk, and put themselves in the position of getting raped, when if they had the maturity they would have kept their arse at home. Personally I think the age of 16 is too young to allow a person to operate a dangerous machine known as an automobile. The amount of crap going on Facebook and Twitter by 14 year olds is unreal; from sexual exploitation to bullying resulting in suicides.
Geeks, making the world a better place |
Just so I don't sound too bad, I have to tell everyone that I was on the honor roll for most of my life and I went to college in California for guitar and electronic music synthesis under a program that paid for the cost of my tuition minus books. I wasn't a bad kid or a total F-up or anything. I was just a person who demanded to have rights. |
