Esase

Does anybody know what's going on with Esase, I have some of his modules purchased but there is no updates, for example simple messenger?

Another developer that appears to have abandoned Dolphin.  I have his Traffic Inspector module that has a flaw in it and he wanted me to pay to have it fixed.  It still has the flaw and is still on the market.  I might issue a complaint yet.

I also have some ESASE modules. Fortunately, not so much and not so valuable.

Unfortunately there are many such cases. I even have such modules, which can no longer be downloaded because the seller has been deleted or removed the product.

He's around, but may be a little slow to respond.  If something needs to be fixed by him, let me know.

Ease is very helpful with all his mods.. I bought all his mods and Highly Recommend... no complaint at all..

@Bouchetalk - Thats great that you highly recommend him but this isn't the first we have heard issues regarding communication and/or functionality of his modules.

If he is very responsive to your emails, maybe you can advise his to reply to these forum concerns.

Since we are talking about our experiences with Esase:

On the traffic module page it states, " If user exceeds the default disk space he allowed to use, he won't be able to upload any files and will be offered to purchase this service or he will have to remove files uploaded before to clean his disk space"  However, it does not work, the user does not get the space back when deleting files.  When I mentioned it, he said it was not a flaw but a feature to force my members to buy more space; which would just anger my members.  He said to have it worked the way it should, I would have to pay him.  Then later on during my discussion, and on the forum here, he said I could ask for a refund.  So instead of fixing the flaw he is willing to lose $79.00 although he had indicated he would fix it if I paid him.  That does not make sense to me and he actually would lose more by refund than what he wanted me to pay to fix it.  Plus, his attitude generated a negative feedback from me on his module page; which I would ask to be removed if he would just fix the module.

To ease your mind forever wondering...

This is my response about "simple messenger" and it's update.

Greetings,

I'm working for ******* on here, site is *****.com, the simple messenger module of yours is causing problems with 7.1.4.

I upgraded this site, but right off I uninstalled the simple messenger, yours, then proceeded with the patches, the module page showed "simple messenger" by boonex version 1.1.4, but when I went to install, it throws database error.

Putting your mod back in your folder changes the version, and will install BUT the end party never gets the message.

Please help with any suggestions. Have you updated the module for 7.1.4?

From ESASE> Hello, no this module will not be upgraded. It's works with dolphin 7.0.x only!

I'm afraid there's nothing stopping a developer from ending their support at a certain version of Dolphin, especially if the item in question isn't popular enough for them to want to maintain it. I recommend keeping away from the fleeting ones, and supporting those that stick by their work, like Deano. That said, they still need to support their stuff on compatible versions, and if the compatible version is "7.x", it's a blank check that they can either honor or refund.

For developers that skipped town or were suspended, I'm afraid the only option is to either hunt them down or hire someone else to make any needed fixes. In most cases for modules, all you need to do is edit the compatibility bit in the module's config.php file under the /install/ directory. Same can't be said for mods and templates.

Great, does this mean that I can hire some coder to do that for me and to offer like a free module on market?

Quote · 5 Nov 2013

Not exactly.

The original code is still copywrite by the origional developer. So unless he gives permission for you to give away or sell a modified version, then you can't.

For example whats going on here:

"hi SirOliver,

S***** and s***** will be updated in around2 weeks (too many changes in Dolphin 7.1, so i have to reintegrate all of my templates from scratch)

NOTE: the products will be released as a new products, as you bought them for D 7.0 - you'll be offered 50% discount

as for ***** ***** mod, so my developer (the owner of this mod) is not going to offer it for D 7.1 (too hard to optimize / rewrite), moreover there is allready some similar mod in Dolphin 7.1"

This is the answer for my purchased product from developer....

I dropped all my templates as well when 7.1 was released.

But i updated all of my modules. Except for one which was my quote area block mod. But that was only because dolphin 7.1 eliminated the quote area and put a service menu there instead, so i had no choice with that one.

The templates i can understand. There is no updating them. They have to be redone from scratch. But the mods should not be that hard to update.

I agree with the developer making the decisions about not upgrading, but, as I stated.

I upgraded this site, but right off I uninstalled the simple messenger, yours, then proceeded with the patches, the module page showed "simple messenger" by boonex version 1.1.4, but when I went to install, it throws database error.

From the admin menu in 7.0.9 the module was "uninstalled" BEFORE the upgrades, his module was in it's own directory as far as I could see, maybe it changed something in the /boonex/simple_messenger folder as well. (I didn't do the initial install on the site of this module.)

The module folder was removed and all patches done and all went perfect until the attempted install of the default Boonex simple messenger. That is when the error came up.

I couldn't spend more time on the project as I was paid for only updating to 7.1.4

I thought at least ESASE would jump in and help us remove the module or suggest some type of method but as you see the only response was basically get off!

What will happen is new members will read this and hopefully remember when shopping in the market or older members getting ready to upgrade your sites will start learning who to purchase from.

Members, make sure all your modules are "current" or remove them following the directions, if at all included before you update your sites, especially modules like this one.

What is not helping is Boonex having the "trusted vendor" on vendors' pages when they can no longer be trusted to stand by their products.

I checked this with Andrew a while back. I'm not sure about being an employee, but he did say I could suspend his account if needed (like everyone else). I haven't had a reason to do that.

What about the "Trusted Vendor" status on vendors, do you have the power to change that?  While I doubt the trusted vendor status is that important when someone buys a module from the market, I find it galling to see that on vendors that don't answer emails, don't activate their products, refuse to fix issues, etc.

Only BoonEx can add/remove trusted vendors. If there's a problem with a trusted vendor, I recommend contacting BoonEx, however Catch-22 that might feel to you. For problems unrelated to a vendor's trusted status, such as a dispute, feel free to contact me.

Seems that once a seller obtains a Trusted Vendor status it is very rarely (if ever?) removed... yet all vendors change over time, i.e. some get better at supporting their products while others get worse.  One possible solution would be to award the Trusted Vendor status every year based on buyer feedback for the previous 12 months.  The seller would accumulate the awards, e.g. a new one would be added to any previous ones so a pattern could be seen.  Personally, I would be impressed by any Seller that has won the award year after year.

Good idea, I agree with this.  Yes, a vendor that wins the Trusted Vendor award year after year would be something we could go by.

How could you even expect this from boonex? They are too lazy to do it. Foot in Mouth

so much to do....
