I just decided to give the Boonex Photo Shooter a test, and per usual, another @#!!! feature that doesn't work for me.
Does anybody know what the "Error Transmitting Data" is related to when trying to add a photo via webcam/photo shooter? I've tested this feature on other D7 sites. and it works fine, so it has nothing to do with my computer/hardware.
There just doesn't seem to be any end in sight, to these little surprises.

No. Watermelon launchers are much more reliable.

I don't know. Do you think it has something to do with RMS?

I suppose that's possible. It could be caused by El Niño for all I know. Have you ever seen this error before?

Come on Alex. Do you really think, after two years, I would overlook something like that? I have already stated that I have tested this on other D7 sites, and that it works, so you not being able to reproduce the problem comes as no surprise.
I'm just asking for some clues as to what triggers an error like this. My other flash apps that use rms work OK. Surely this can be narrowed down to possible reasons,.

You guys and your drive-by answers, like 'cannot reproduce..etc" can drive a person insane. Please try to check flash/modules/photo/files folder permission. It should be writable by webserver process. Rules → http://www.boonex.com/terms |
HL also your post a video comment does not work either. If you check updates in both photo shooter along with video comment in your admin flash apps pannel you will notice that both of them say product not found when you click update. I am having my host TMD hosting look into it as some people have reported saying
"It boiled down to my Host (Hostgator) needing to open ports 1935, 1936 and 5080 outgoing in their Firewall."
Here is what another said:
another suggestion is that is that PHP exec() function is disabled on the server. Advise with your hosting provider in order to figure this out
If my host resolves this issue I will let you know.

Please try to check flash/modules/photo/files folder permission. It should be writable by webserver process.
Yes that folder is writable. This error message is generated by the photo shooter flash object, and as such, I have absolutely no way of tracing this error.... no error logs to check... nothing. It's a mysterious black box, that I have no way of troubleshooting.

HL,
not sure if this has anything to do with the specific module you are having problems with, but this is in the error_log /flash/error_log

Dos I am having the same issues as well. It is with both photo shooter and post a video comment. Any chance they are both related issues? |
@LW He did edit the url
@ Dawg No, that's not related. I was experimenting with that file while working on something unrelated, and expect errors like that when working on a live site. I did look at that error log file for any clues to this problem, but there were no local server errors that would relate to this problem.

Maybe someone should wake up Rayz, or poke him with a stick, to see if he as any words of wisdom.
It would be nice if there was some sort of flash diagnostic module, that would test all the connectivity between a website and the rms, and all the other functions... then output a report of the test results. As it is now, things either work or they don't, and if they don't, we don't have much, if anything, to go on. in respect to LW, i pasted in here, then the browser froze up. so it wasnt edited for a moment, because i had to get on another machine.
i also noticed this issue being reported on modmysite, but there was no answer provided there either.

so if this is supposed to use RMS, shouldnt there be an APP for RMS, as there is for every other flash app? also, is there no database for this thing to write to? if so which table is it supposed to write to?
just installed an RMS yesterday, the following webapps are present:
board | chat | im | livecam | phone | video

I too have same problem on new versions, I posted somewhere about it when .4 was released..and installed the new RMS, ever since no photos or video comments
ManOfTeal.COM a Proud UNA site, six years running strong! |
@AlexT,
since it was upon your suggestion that HL use another source for RMS, that can be presumed as an inference, that the photo shooter in fact uses RMS?
which webapp does the photo shooter utilize on the RMS?
furthermore, is there not a corresponding database required for the photo shooter? there is a .sql file in the install directory, however, its empty, and not of much use.
so as you seen from my post, this was reported over on modmysite as well, and no answer or even a fleeting comment was left on that post. so this issue seems to be getting avoided.
then i see that there are some hints that the photo shooter and video comments not working are related to the 7.0.4 RMS? i see there was one post last night, and this is not just coincidental on this. the video comment will record, but it will cut off after 13 seconds, that was reported by another unity member, and that is exactly what i seen on a fresh RMS 7.0.4 installation.
Photo Shooter - does it use RMS (if so which webapp is being used)
Photo Shooter - is there an associated database table?
Video Comments - whats going on with the videos being cut off after 13 seconds of playing?
When a GIG is not enough --> Terabyte Dolphin Technical Support - Server Management and Support |
HL,
this is most likely not really providing any help, but i just installed a fresh D7.0.4, and have some data to share since this is not be reproduced elsewhere, in regards to your exact error.
first thing that concerns me as mentioned here previously is that if you go into flash apps from the admin panel, and expand the photo shooter +, and click on the update option, it will tell you that the product is not found. thats a problem.
so i am wondering if the boonex guys can get that to reproduce, and explain why its doing that?

also, and just a tad off topic, but the video comments also has this same result, i am stating that here because it was inquired as to whether the issue with photo shooter and video comments were in some way related? not clear on the relationship of the two, but thought i would add this screenie since i was there and decided to take it.

ok so going further with the photo shooter, which I in fact have no real clue what you would want to use it for, but i decided that on the 'FRESH install' of 7.0.4 to look into this, since it seems that HL is having a level of difficulty that is not being responded to with any relevancy of an answer.
Photo Shoot worked for me, so in fact, i was unable to reproduce the same error as HL, however, it does seem to me that the two screen shots should be explained as to why the modules are 'not found'.

now what i found interesting was this. as you can see this image has a name, and as with all images, they are referenced from the database. there is no instance of this image, even remotely available from the database. the only place its referenced is from the bx_spy.
so through this all, here is what i have discovered. RMS is not needed for the Photo Shooter, because on this account that I tested on, there was no RMS at all.
when attempting to update the photo shoot widget, its reported that the product was not found.
cant find the associated database table where the image data is stored?
When a GIG is not enough --> Terabyte Dolphin Technical Support - Server Management and Support |
I don't get that 'Product not found message' It behaves normally. I did the upgrade to 7.0.5 last night, and nothing has changed. If I knew the exact theory of operation here, and exactly which files are involved, I might have a chance of helping myself on this one. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
Dawg, glad you were able to shoot that photo. Too bad you didn't have a better looking subject. My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees. |
I have confirmed that the photo shooter does not use RMS, so it seems as though my site is having trouble transmitting data to itself.
I really could use a better definition of the error, than a simple 'Error Transmitting Data" By the wording, I would presume that it didn't mean any type of file write error.
So Boonex, what's a "Transmitting data error" What's being transmitted from where to where? What's the communication protocol? How is the error detected? Is it a data collision error? Is it a parity error? A protocol error? A timeout error? Is it a server error? Is it a client-server communication error?
What is it?
