Email ... What's the point?

Ok, I am sure this has been asked before but where to I adjust this crazy black background that goes out with the emails? Seems totally ridiculous to me...

That's not in default Dolphin, and I don't see this in a test email from your site. Does this happen with other email clients?

A black background is not sent as part of the email. It has to be the way your client is reading the email. So what email client are you seeing that on?

OK ...  I think I understand ... it's ugly !

I'm unsure if you can change directly in the email templates or via style sheet ...

edit: I see what you mean now .... that black space! I have no idea why you have that! I have never seen that on my site mail. I thought you was meaning the emails itself are ugly. I need to read threads better before responding.

 I suppose it may be possible that some template I installed changed it at some point but don;t remember ever configuring the email template CSS stuff....

There's nothing in that output that would make the background black. Does this happen in a different email client?

It your body background for the email you have this.

<body bgcolor="#eee" style="margin:0; padding:0;">

So the color is already set.

What your seeing is something that windows live is sticking it there. It's appearing after the body of the email has already closed.

I have no idea what is causing it as i have never seen it on any of the email clients i have used. But i also don't use windows live mail. So i will have to run some tests when i get some time. I am sure boonex does not use WIndows live either or they would have noticed it.

This is one hell of a mystery. There are no settings to adjust that would cause the black background in this email. All emails from my site to my email client do this, not just the new member notification.

Does this also happen on the demo site (demo.boonex.com)?

Although not as pronounced, you can see the black line at the bottom of the body.... It's like a filler that takes up the remaining part of the page. it does not scroll....

I just installed Mozilla (Thunderbird). It does not do it there. I think it's in how Microsoft handles the html content. Mozilla extends the grey that surrounds the info box to the bottom of the page, Microsoft does not, opting instead to end the grey after the last text on the page.....

I know that sounds like an ifiot posted it but that's what is happening.... It's a Microsoft thing...... Not sure anything can be done except to change the html used to display the page....

It seems to be a microsoft thing.

If your up for some testing. Create an account on my site. http://www.deanbassett.com Let me know the results of the welcome email you get.

Then unregister your account.

I will then make some changes to the template and try again to see what happens.

If I'm not mistaken, it's to do with the size (height) of the email.

Try changing the body tag and add min-height:1000px;, like in the example below:

<body bgcolor="#eee" style="margin:0; padding:0; min-height:1000px;">

I am not a fan of sending HTML emails.  HTML emails have always been a security issue.  Is it necessary to send your members HTML emails?  I have HTML turned off in my email client; which of course means that if someone sends an email without plain text I get a blank email; which tells me to just dump it.
