Email Video's that Play?

Has anyone looked into auto play videos from emails?  Yes you can link a picture to a link but I've seen

emails that play directly in the email.  Has anyone looked at this and made it work successfully?  Mod? http://www.bombbomb.com/ something like this!  If a video like these could go out with invites and other

system emails I think it would get much better attention...

Yes, if you are sending HTML emails.  Note that some may be blocking certain content in HTML emails, such as remote images, and some may have HTML email turned off due to security issues.

Your assuming everyone has high speed. I think you also assume everyone has a smartphone.

AOL still has 3-4 million dial-up customers.

The small ISP i still own but walked away from last year still has a couple hundred dial-up customers.

The town i live in, is surrounded by a half dozen towns that do not have high speed available. I lived in one of them last year and that one did not even have cell phone service or cable tv.

And personally, if someone started attaching videos to emails being sent to me without me specifically requesting them, i would report it as spam.

Sorry. Just my opinion. I was a internet provider for over 10 years. I had to deal with customer complaints about spam, large attachments they could not download, photos, ect. Email and the abuse of it for uses that email was not designed and intended for is a touchy subject for me. Not everyone lives in a big city where high speed internet and iphones are as common as oxygen.

Anyhow. Food for thought. Something to consider before actually doing it.

Deano - Thank you for the stats and if a person doesn't have them they will not expect a video and could get a text version.  However think of it as going to a targeted market that there is no doubt that they have either! I've often been asked the same question about clients that don't have either and my response is always the same.  The clients I am going after or would email would have both or my target marketing is lacking!

As far as turning off videos again not the person I am after as ALL recent email marketing statistics are Exploding with video!  Imagine the difference between an invite about a site with video versus hey check this out!  I'm not really here to ask why, I am here to ask how!  Responses to video emails are the same on FB they get watched more than any other media!

The SMTP has not really changed.  Even a small video is going to use a lot of bandwidth; take a bit of time to download.

I have all HTML email settings turned off, I have my email client set for plain text emails; it is the best security practice.
