SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. SMTP Error: Could not authenticate. SMTP Error: Could not authenticate

Yes, that problem has been seen before, it is telling you that the mail server is rejecting the mail because relaying is prohibited.  You need to authenticate yourself to the mail server first before it will allow the email to be sent.

We would need to know more about your mail setup.

Make sure you've checked that the mail server requires authentication on the settings form, and enter the username and password of the email account.

Either disable/uninstall the SMTP mailer module, or make sure it's correctly setup:

  1. Tick the SMTP Authentication option.
  2. Enter the SMTP Username - the username of the email account (e.g., example@example.com).
  3. Enter the SMTP Password - the password of the above email account.
  4. For the server name, use localhost if it's an email account on the server; otherwise, check with the email provider.

Under the advance settings, Moderation, check the "Auto-activate profiles after joining:"  Leave the confirmation email setting in place and go to the market and get this free module: http://www.boonex.com/m/block-unconfirmed-members

AntonLV also has a free module that keeps un-confirmed members from logging on.  Use the one that works the best for you.

Thank you for your reply.

I got the confirmation email to send. but the problem now is that the email doesn't work. Along with a lot of things on my site. When you click the link in the confirmation email. it states

"40 Sorry, site is temporary unavailable. Please try again later."

And still doesn't confirm the email.

PM me the contents of the confirmation email.  Or, it might be that the template for the confirmation email is causing the problem.  You might want to check the confirmation email template in the backend.

You will need to share the contents of the email and or complete error you are getting with one of them folks responding to you. (do not post publicly, send in PM)

It seems to me , its a permissions issue, and or possibly a incorrect return link , and or some of the links are incorrect, as a 404 error on the link is showing.

When asking for help, don't include such things as tiff files and docx.

Docx, Microsoft's attempt to continue to milk the cash cow of Office.  They claimed that docx was a new xml format but it is nothing more than a container; like an avi file, and inside of that container is a regular office document file and an xml file.  The idea was to drive sales of their bloated office application because someone sends you a docx file and to open it you need the latest and worthless Microsoft Office because most people in the business world that makes decisions for the companies are over paid idiots that don't know anything and of course it looks bad on them if they actually ask those under them making less money if the company should upgrade to the latest Office.

Now that my rant is over, I will go take a look at that docx file that I opened in the open source LibreOffice application that is completely free.

You took a screenshot and made a docx file that can not be opened in a browser?  In the future, just attach the image in jpeg or png, or gif format.

What I asked was for you to do a source view of the email, copy that and PM it to me.  That way I could see the underlying link that is there instead of just the text that you click on.  It is very possible the problem lies with the template.

Looking at that screenshot it may be that part of the confirmation code is being truncated.  With your permission I would like to create an account on your site and get the confirmation email sent to me where I can examine it.

I am unable to find even part of that message doing a search of Dolphin files; even if I search on "site is temporary unavailable".  I am thinking that message is coming from your web host; "Host for Webs".  Now, I noticed that my profile became activated which means the Dolphin script processing the activation, activate_profile.php did activate the profile.  The problem occurred most likely when it tried to generate the page telling the user their profile had been activated.  Why I don't know.  Have you contacted Hosts for Web and give them the message you are receiving?  If that 40 is code, I don't know what it is, it might be internal to Host for Webs.

I have gotten that error message "Site unavailable" In my case, I had a messed up database. So, I went into my cpanel and repaired all of my databases, and that resolved my problem.

Yea. That one is difficult to find.

The message is encoded. It's part of the encoded section within inc/design.inc.php

So it is coming from dolphin. Normally the message starts with the number 1 which you will find a lot of them in the forums. Usually indicates that the __boonex_footers__ marker in the template was altered or removed.

I do not know what the number 40 means tho.

My test account was activated, so the activation part of the profile_activate.php script was working; however, instead of taking one to the normal page telling the member they were activated, we get a white screen with that 40 message of 40 Sorry, site is temporary unavailable. Please try again later.  So the question is why? You could check your php error logs to see if something is showing up there.

Geeks, making the world a better place

I activated the account manually.

I activated the account manually.

You were not suppose to, I was testing the site to try and learn what was going on.  So now I guess it is not activating the accounts.  You are probably going to have to get someone to go in and try to figure out what is going on. Did you look at the php logs to see if something might be in them?

You can go ahead and delete that test account from your site.

I installed a new template and a module. Well once i done that the mod didn't work. So the creator of the mod told me to clear my cache. When i done that it corrected the email confirmation problem along with a lot more problems i was having. I hope this information helps out someone else with problems as well.

I can't believe no one here suggested clearing the cache. It's one of the first things that should be done when having problems.

Anyhow. My recommendation. Turn off all caching while the site is under development.

I believe all caching options should be off by default when dolphin is first installed anyway. They should not be turned on until the site is finished.

I think this started out as one problem and morphed into another.

"40 Sorry, site is temporary unavailable. Please try again later."

I guess we get so tired of saying clear the caches over and over LOL

There should be a way to have a permanent header for the forum that states, First Clear the Caches, then ask. LOL
