Editing CSS Files

I am adding text to fields like FAQ's and about us to make the site more "Mine" I want to edit this is the CSS templates so that I can make everything consistent.  How do I access the CSS templates where the files are editable?

if you need to ask how to access a css file, then you could possibly be in for a long drawn out experience. on a default installation, there is a directory named templates, in that directory is a directory named uni, uni is the default template for a dolphin install. you will need to open the uni directory at which time, you will see another directory named CSS, in that css directory is where about 95% of your style resides, if not directly, then by @import from the base css files.

you can install Firefox browser if you are not using at currently, then install the plugin for firefox called firebug, firebug for firefox will allow you to view the elements on the page. however, if you are editing, i would suggest you turn off template caching, because it makes it basically untraceable from a cached perspective. if you click on any element on your site when firebug is loaded, you will see on the right panel, reference to the styles, you need to also pay attention to styles that are inherited.

well thats my two pence worth on how you can edit your css files.

i would recommend an application Notepad++ and make sure you get the ftp plugin for that, it will allow to ftp into your site with the editor and edit your files, then hit the save button, that will push the edited file back up to the server, you can then refresh your browser, and if the output is not what you desired, then you can simply hit the undo button on Notepad++ and save the file again, and it will revert back to its original settings.

a word of advice on modifying the uni template, i try to persuade all who are going to do style customzations, to copy the uni template, and rename it to your own desired template name, and that is the template you should edit, not the uni, as you may get in a pickle, where you need to rely on the default template, and if you have wrecked up your default template, then you have to reupload the entire thing.
