Dolphin 8 / Trident

Ok, forgive me if I missed the answer to this somewhere... But I've searched everywhere I could possibly look to find out if Dolphin 8 using the Trident core is still planning on being released this year.  We're past the half way point of this year and would love to find out if it's still on track to be released in 2010?

From all the posts and threads I've read through trying to find out, I know I am not the only one, and that there are plenty of people that have been waiting far longer than I, but could the higher powers that be please officially let us know if team Boonex is on track to delivering the holy grail of social networking before the end of the year?

We're all super excited.  Can you give us a glimpse of hope... Please Innocent

Thanks in advance =)

BoonEx never announces their release dates ahead of the actual day of release. It's usually because they themselves have no idea when they will actually release it.

I don't expect anything truly worthwhile for Trident to show itself until next year. Premium users will get the first heads-up, so if you really want to remain informed, you can plop down $20.00/month. I'm waiting until something considerably new concerning it shows up before making that investment.

I'm looking forward to Trident as much as the next person, but I'm also trying to not get caught-up in something that's the equivalent of Duke Nukem Forever.

Hmm...

with D8 coming out, I assume we will need to do a lot of work on it if we choose to use it. So... should I stop working so hard on what Im doing now or what?

I guess I was kind of typing out loud on this one. However, I am interested in what your opinions are.

I was going to ask this as well which would have brought up several more questions. But, Im sure there will be some sort of migration tool to do this. What Im wondering is how much customizing we will have to do to D8 to be like our current sites.

What about these mods? Will we have to buy new mods designed for D8? Hopefully they will be able to be updated so we dont have to purchase them again.

They announce their plans for new updates and versions fast, but they don't actually release them with the same amount of speed. There are plenty of sites running modified installations of Dolphin 6 that don't follow BoonEx's updates.

I actually find it interesting that those who were once complaining about the lack of updates are now complaining about the number of updated being released.

I prefer doing an update every 4-8 weeks than have to wait 6 months to get a bug fixed.

Give me something to believe in...

Even when D8 is out, you would want to hold off for a good few months before switching. We do not expect nearlry as much functionality to be included from start.

Snatfu,

I went through the same thing with D6 / D7. I consider all the 'wasted' time and money a learning experience.

If you wait, you risk never moving forward.  Do you want a bird in hand or two in the bush? Or something like that...

If you remember correctly Leather... I made that "OOH! Theres An Update And I Gotta Have It!" mistake once already!

I think I can wait... this time.

@Snatfu - Based on how long D7 has taken, I think we'll see the end of the Mayan calendar before we see D8!  We might not even get 7.1 before the end of the year.  If you must wait, that one should be worth updating to.

Someday, Someway.

well, that's interesting.

personally, i've spent over $12,000 in further development on my current 7.0.1 version, to get it to where i wanted it, so i don't think i will be upgrading any further. i'm happy with what i have now though. i am a frustrated, broke, happy, dolphin customer now :)

It's the intention to have the possibility to upgrade from D7 to D8. At least, that's what I've been told.

I would not have high hopes of it being this year for dolphin 8 LOL

To get a image of the time frame look at http://www.boonex.com/trac/dolphin/roadmap

They still got the following versions to bring out.

  1. 7.0.4
  2. 7.0.x (That is a new one was not there last week. hmmm)
  3. 7.1
  4. Dolphin 8

Just think of the time it took to the release 7.03 after 6.17. You work out when Dolphin 8 will be out.

It's good to know that I've never helped anyone on this site and instead I've been living an ego-feeding lie. Also, you just jumped to the conclusion that my reply was in defense of BoonEx, but I never said anything in that manner.

What is the importance of upgrading if you are happy with the current functionality and security? I have a custom layout with a lot of modded layouts. I really do not want to re-invent the wheel if not a priority.

Speed improvements to the script.

Added memory cache now instead of just file cache.
