Dolphin 7 Title Tags and SEO - Don't Read This! I Hate Competition!

Hay, got your attention.  I don't know if this is the proper place for such a discussion, but when I went to write a blog it said I wasn't supposed to engage conversations using blogs...that's what forums are for.  So here goes:

Question:  Is it better to have different titles for all your pages, or to have the same title for all your pages?

Now I know that 99% of people who think they know a bit about SEO will immediately reply: "All different titles of course!!!"

However, I have some very good evidence to suggest otherwise.  What is this evidence?  I'll talk about that at a later time.

For now, I really, really want you to think about the question.  This issue has been driving me nuts for weeks now.

Let's say you have a site with a few thousand active members.  This likely means you have at least 10,000 pages.

One of my sites, according to Google webmaster tools, has over 1.9 million pages I'm not lying.  I can post the proof later.

(ps.  Google seems to recognize the same page with a different template as being a different page as well....hmmmm)

Now would it be better to have the perfectly crafted title, utilizing your keywords/phrases, for each of these 10,000 pages.

Or to have all these pages have different title tags...which would mean that 99% of your pages would have one word titles like:

Dave, Sandra99, HardcorePhil     You get the point.

If I look at my site's indexed pages, over 95% of them have one or two word titles, none of which are utitizing my keywords.

Now I know you are going to say that Google penalizes duplicate title tags.  However, I have reason to believe that the pros actually outweigh the cons.

I also know that somebody will reply and mention long tail keyword phrases.  However, the reality is that most Dolphin sites will never reach a place where they will achieve high rankings for significant long-tailed phrases that actually matter.  But that is a topic for another conversation.

I would now like to hear your thoughts.  I have posted this question on other webmaster forums, but unless you are using a dating script like Dolphin, this question is not really relevant.  On the other hand, I think this is incredibly relevant to all of us...unless you don't care about getting free visitors to your site.

Okay, since there was such a huge interest in this topic, I'll let you know what I decided.

I decided to keep the title tags different.  However I am using a combination of the following:

a.  I've added my keywords to all profile title tags.  I used the info found here:

http://www.boonex.com/unity/forums/topic/Better-SEO-Title-for-member-profile-pages.htm

b.  I'm also using Deano's head injections to change title tags found here:

http://www.boonex.com/unity/extensions/entry/Head_Injections

Together these two strategies should do the trick.  The key is to have different title tags for all your pages, but also to have keyword rich title tags.

I think all that time wasted on modules and inserting information is useless..

look at these results.

If you search for "jacksonville chat" (my audience) I'm second on google out of 2,400,000 results, and have not added any of what your talking about.

google search

and if you look at what google is "keyed" onto is my subscribe box, and title of my site, notice the results are in bold..

How can I get a H1 heading into the body of my pages so that for each page it will target important keywords of the different pages?

@newton its easy in your case cos of your domain name I guess. Some people though targed visitors not only with one expression.

At yahoo, bing and All the web search engine I'm first place as well if I type erotic community out of 40 million at yahoo. But its not just one phrase we want to target visitors on. :-)

Life is beautiful within a unity :-)

NOOOOOOOOOOO. This is an old google defence and goes back many years when people were using doorway pages to climb up google ranks. Yes pages with the same title, but different content (templates) will be indexed seperately on google. What works is having a common subject matter, but different titles. Yes I have forums that have millions of pages indexed by google. It's my user's who create the page titles and descriptive text.... they are far more imaginative than me! One of my sites ranks 1 to 3 for every key phrase in it's niche because of that. But google normally sends them to my home page, not the page that has all the keywords stuffed in it.
