Do I lose my language key changes on a update?

Do I lose my language key changes when I update dolphin? Is there anything that can happen on a update which ill regret? I have no 3rd party modules.

Official upgrade instructions are made to preserve language string changes (unless you changed the same strings as in upgrade).

Or some strings can be lost if you added it into other than System category, and then recompiled modules language files.
