Difference between NEWS & ARTICLES

Could someone give me a brief description of differences between the use and features of NEWS and ARTICLES in D7. They appear to be the same thing?

News: News.

Articles: Articles.

Their names tell all. The news module handles announcements for the site/whatever you want, while the articles module allows for the creation of articles on a certain topic, like the panda.

But aren't they basically the same module with just a different name on it since only Staff/Admin can initiate each? It seems as though it is just splitting hairs to call one NEWS and the other ARTICLES. Unless I am missing function/features in one that are not offered in the other.

They are both essentially the same module, but each provide a certain purpose. One is for news and other information, while the other is for articles on certain topics. I'm sure both are very similar code-wise, but their intended purpose is what separates them.

As far as I can tell, they are exactly the same except for the naming. I think it was a swift way to add another feature without actually doing any more work.....

I don't think you really need anything different except the naming in this case.

I was just thinking that about all the mods in the Market that are not much more than a renaming of the group function.  There must be 20 or more mods based on groups.

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.
