Hello,
I recently installed D7.0.3 using Softaculous and it installed ok but now the dropdowns in admin area for Modules, Tools, Builders and Settings do not drop down at all and the Boonex Newsfeed and featured Modules just keeps showing the loading part like it wont connect to where it is supposed to.
Could this be a file/folder permissions issue? I was using d7.0.2 and it worked very nicely but was suggested to upgrade so i just did a clean installation with d7.0.3 and i am getting these errors. Something tells me i should have just kept the D7.0.2 that my host installed for me.
Any input or suggestions on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I searched the forums here to try and find something on this same issue but was unable to find anything. I do hope i am not making a duplicate post but if i am i am very sorry.
Thanks in advance for any help i may receive on this issue i am having.....

more than likely permissions... check them all I have video tutorials to help you mrpowless.com |
Any idea what permissions? My host says there are currently no known issues with the dolphin softaculous install but if i have to disagree with them seems i used that install and the boonex news in admin area is not loading and the dropdowns for the menus in admin area such as for modules and settings etc are not dropping down to show the menus. Additionally some other functions are not working as i am not able to use the clear cache function either.
Is 7.0.3 the best to be using? I was using 7.0.2 and it worked fine but it showed there was an upgraded version so i went for it. I attached a screenshot here showing what the issues look like.

I too have used Softaculous b4 for installing D7, it "looks" like it installs.. It does not.
It's best to upload the D7 zipped file and uncompress on your server manually, your going to be wasting a lot of time trying to find all the undone results of the Softaculous install

I tried that too and had the same issues. This is a detailed list of the issues i am having that i can notice. I am just wondering if anyone else has experienced these same issues with Dolphin v7.0.3
1) In admin area when i click on the arrows on the left side menu for Modules, Tools, Builders and Settings the menus do not drop down like they are supposed to. If i click directly on the names they will drop down but essentially when clicking on the arrows they are supposed to drop down and show me the options.
2) In admin area the BoonEx News Feed and Featured Modules do now show. Instead they just try to load and continue to show the loading image like it can't connect or something. These boxes are located underneath the Quick Overview in admin area on main administration page.
3) I am unable to use the clear cache functions in the admin area as well and this has to be working in order for me to be able to even work with the script at all.
4) Additionally some Modules will not install and usually with Dolphin in the admin area when a module does not install it will allow you to click the + symbol and a dropdown will show why the module will not install. In my case this does not work either. It is like no dropdowns will work at all in admin area.
I can't seem to figure out what permissions need to be set if it is a permissions issue.

I don't remember what it was exactly, but there's something wrong in the admin settings. I had the same symptoms showing as described by you when I changed something in the settings.
You'd probably download the whole script again and upload in binary via ftp. Don't forget to delete and create a new database and delete all files. You can use cuteftp.com if you don't have one. At least it's free for 30 days and works very reliable.
Not sure in your case, did you do an upgrade or a new installation? I, like so many others had issues with upgrading too and then installed everything new.

I originally started with 7.0.2 and tried doing an upgrade to 7.0.3. When i encountered these issues after the upgrade i deleted the install and the database and did a fresh install of 7.0.3 and encountered the same issues. I then tried using the softaculous 7.0.3 install that my host supplies and encountered the same issues. i use winscp ftp client as well as wise ftp and encountered the same issues after uploading files binary with each ftp client.
I am just guessing that this is an issue with the Dolphin install itself. I choose not to use any other script but Dolphin for my site because it has all the needed mods and features that my members need. I have a large and very active social network site that has been going for over 2 years now. I was using Social Engine but that is terrible software and Dolphin has come such a long ways and feel that Dolphin is the best suitable script for my site. Once i get these issues solved i will be able to add the mods i have created. At the moment my social network site is down for maintenance and is sporting a place holder page. It is scheduled to return online New Years Eve. I have several thousand dollars invested in this site and hope to someday get a return on it all. The best part of this is that is is fun to do.
I just can't figure out why these issues are happening.

I just found another error. I am not able to make any changes to the advanced settings. None of these settings can be changed for some reason. It's like part of the admin area wont work at all. I just did a fresh install and am getting all the same errors as described earlier in this post as well as this error. It shows these but doesn't show any of the settings or any way to drop down to view or set any of these settings. Really not sure where to begin to try and resolve this at all. Has anyone experienced any of these issues before?

Just an update on this post. I have had 2 people take a look in my admin area and they say that they see everything working fine. As a result of this i have connected directly into my modem and bypassed my router as well as shutting down my antivirus/firewall and also flushed my dns as well as clearing my cookies and cache. I still saw the issues i was seeing so i went to a friends house which is a totally different internet connection and used their pc. I still had issues using the admin area. None of this makes any sense to me.
When i had Dolphin v7.0.2 installed all worked perfect for me and now that i have installed Dolphin v7.0.3 i am having these issues. I installed Dolphin v7.0.2 on a different folder and it worked fine so now i am wondering why that version works fine and the newest doesn't for me but it does for others. I am so lost on this whole thing. I own licenses to other social networking scripts but decided to use Dolphin because it possessed the features that my site members needed. If i cant use the admin area Dolphin is of no use to me. I have even sent requests to agents of Dolphin and none of them have returned any reply. I have paid out over 100 dollars to someone from my hosting company to look into it and they only returned to me to tell me after they accepted my money that they experience no issues at all. This morning i had a networking and pc specialist come to my house and paid him 250 dollars to tell me that there is nothing on my network or pc that would cause this to happen and he has checked all 4 of my computers. We even tried a different router and also tried a different modem. I have just returned from the library where i even tried on one of their computers to use my admin area and failed to do so. So far i have invested over 300 dollars to try and solve this issue and still no luck. I have people telling me that they can see no issues with my admin area at all and it has to be on my end and others telling me there is no way it could be on my end. My host now ignores any of my support tickets and has basically told me that i am crazy and i am about to just say to hell with Dolphin and go back to Social Engine or PHP Fox which i know works fine for me. I really so much wanted to use Dolphin and was excited that i had a license. I was going to upgrade my account to Premium but i don't see the point in it if i cant even use it.
I just do not know what to do. If there is anyone out there that can shed any light onto this subject or anyone out there that has experienced this same issue and knows of a fix please let me know. I will be willing to reward this person greatly if they can help me to get this all to work for me. This is a fresh install and not installed by softaculous. Also when i go to the advanced settings page i am unable to even see the options to set the advanced settings. I see the settings main categories but when i click the arrows to drop down to adjust settings nothing drops down at all. So basically any admin settings i want to do that require something to drop down will not and if i wanted to edit anything of the sort i would be forced to do it through phpmyadmin because i am unable to do it from the admin area.

you're probably doing well with 7.04 then. Just install the latest version when it is available. I think within a week or ten days. |
I really wish it were that simple for me. I have an active social network site that has already been down for almost a month now and have a deadline of New Years Eve to return. Very worried that my over 2000 existing members will not return should i take too long to get the site back up and running. This site has been going for well over 2 years now and i have invested well over 20 grand into this since early 2009.
I wonder if i installed 7.0.2 if it would be possible to upgrade to the new 7.0.4 when it is released without losing any data. I am already way behind schedule as some know it takes much more time than i actually have to re develop this site again and migrate all its members over to the new site. I was using another script but it was not right for my members. I have used Social Engine and PHP Fox and recently have returned to try another round with Dolphin the script in which the site originated with.

are you on a shared server? 2000 members seem to be the limit in your case.
You could ask your host to reset from their backup, this is what I did, and then backup everything. After then have someone from boonex help you fixing that issue.
I'd be also interested in the details of this issue.
It could well be one of the extra mods you have installed that hinders your upgrade. At least this is what happened in my case. I think to uninstall all mods that are not originally coming with the scripts and then you can try it again. But make a backup of your content and members etc first.

I am on a shared server now but was on one of my dedicated servers. mY host assured me that i would be fine on the server they have me on with even more members than i have. i was using a diff script so at the moment there is no site because the other script had too many database issues. I have Darren Powless working on this now though. I am very confident that he will be able to get me up and running as he is literally genius. |
I was having the same issue as you this morning. My host is Arvixe - and they just got it working again. Here was the response they sent me.
This should be correctly fixed now. We recently employed a new light weight web server which reduces the load on the server and caches static content in order to speed up sites and reduce load. However, the internal caching of JS files by Dolphin does not play nice with this (JS files are already cached by the web server). I disabled the caching of JS files in your sys_options table.
Let me know if this works for you.

Interesting. I also am using Arvixe. I will have to contact them again and see if this is the case for me as well. Thank you so much for your input. It is very much appreciated. I was beginning to think i was going insane and needed some sort of meds or psychiatrist lol.......... |
******UPDATE******
Problem has been solved. I had Darren Powless look into this issue and as always he does his magic and fixes things. If anyone ever needs any help with something like this i can assure you he can fix it and very quickly. All is well back in the world of web.....
