CutOff Block Links - Custom Template

Hello. I have a custom template that I have purchased (can no longer get ahold of the developer either :( ) and unfortunately some of the links are missing and cutoff from many of the html blocks like groups, videos, photos, etc. Below is an example of one of the blocks that they are missing from...

Cutoff Links

My question is how do I restore or view all of these links again and what files are these links found in? As you can tell there are many missing from the above page (the timeline page) like Add a Sound, Add a Photo, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

First is to check the CSS of the template you are using.  To do this, make sure CSS caching is turned off in your Admin panel and then clear the caches.

You will need to use inspect elememnt in Chrome, or install Firebug in FireFox..  You will will then visit the page in question, right click on the element you want to inspect, then choose inspect element or inspect with Firebug.  From there you can play with the CSS to see if it is the cause of the missing links.

When you find the cause; if it is a CSS issue, is to note the CSS name and location and the line number.  Then you can edit the CSS file and fix the cause of the problem.

Thank you very much geek_girl. I have looked through the common.css file and played with the text and am finding that my cutoff text issues are found only in the dbTopMenu, but no matter what changes I make it seems that after so many characters or maybe some margin settings the text just cuts off. I installed a fresh version of dolphin for testing and have found on the timeline it cuts off half of the "e" and the entire "o" of "Add a Video" on the far right (image below)...

Missing EO

If you look back up at my website image above, you will see much more is cut off but if I right justify the text (through inspect element changes *which I was able to do) the only visible text is "Write" and half of "Share a Link".

My question now is, where are the margin settings for dbTopMenu and could there possibly be a Plain White image that cuts off text somewhere? I didn't see anywhere where that image could be stored, but there are references to general.css when inspecting an element, but that didn't prove very fruitful in my searching and altering the checkboxes in Chrome.

Thanks again for your help! You do this community a great service!

A quick solution would be for you to change your wording.  Instead of "Add a video" use "Add video", just remove the "A" and all should fit.  Cool

Make sure CSS is turned off and then PM me the site and I will take a look.  That menu is also suppose to support scrolling the menu left and right.

Have you tried switching your template to the default Uni to see if the problem still exists? If it looks fine with Uni, you will know that you should be looking at your custom template CSS files.

I am not sure whether you changed the image size in your first screenshot or not, but looking at it on my computer, the text looks bunched up together (kinda squished).

Thank you everyone for your answers.

geek_girl - I have sent you a PM.

Jun10r- Just changing the wording won't fix the underlying issue, plus there are more missing hyperlinks besides the Add a Video one, it is also missing about 5 others on that same block. :(

Zarcon- I did try using the UNI template and the issue did NOT persist. This tells me that it is indeed my CSS, I just can't seem to find it in this templates CSS. The font size is changed, but when I reduced it, it didn't help much other than seeing half of "Add a Sound."

I am having multiple issues with CSS throughout the site on the dbtopmenu, the timeline just has the most options for hyperlinks so I'm starting there.

Did you make changes to the CSS?  If so, I wish I had known that before working on it.  It is better for me to work from the original template.  I ask because your last screenshot did not match what I saw when I went into the site.  Anyway, I PMed some changes that I made.

geek_girl thanks again for your assistance. You saved the day! Your suggestions worked spot on. I did mention in the post with the second image, that I installed a fresh copy without the custom template and took the screenshot from that. I apologize for the misunderstanding and if I did not make myself clear. Sometimes these techy questions are difficult to express. Anyway, you fixed the issue. I shot a review your way for the help.

I am glad that I could be of help.  I know how frustrating it can be to try and get these things fixed.

Please keep in mind, the cutting off of those links is normal. If you pay real close attention, and the template is not messed up, you will notice two little arrows on either side of those links. If by chance there is more text than can be displayed, the arrow is supposed to be visible and you can scroll to the left or right.

They were not there, this is a custom template so there were changes made; also, this was a custom template that was reworked from a 7.0.9 template.
