Custom Templates & Upgrading Dolphin

Our custom template currently doesn't work with 7.0.3 and we are still in the process of trying to upgrade, what exactly needs to be amended on the custom template in order for it to be compatable with Boonex Dolphin 7.0.3. Can anyone point me in the direction of any documentation about this at all please?

Thanks

Please can anyone advise on this? It would be hugely appreciated.

We still haven't even managed to upgrade to 7.0.3 yet and 7.0.4 is being released. Surely there must be hundreds of other sites using custom templates, what needs to be done? Thanks

What part of your template does not work with 7.0.3?  You say this is a custom template, so did you purchase it from the Market? Have you contacted the developer if so?

Hi Zarcon,

We built the custom template ourselves and there are loads of things not working with 7.0.3. The forum for starters doesn't display in html, it's just a ton of text (unformatted html) on a white page.

Although we built the template, we don't know what needs amending to make it work with 7.0.3 and I haven't got anyone at Boonex that is familiar with custom template integration/upgrades that I can speak with.

This is incredibly frustrating now, the support from Boonex is abysmal, I have been trying to upgrade to 7.0.3 since it was released! :(

Thanks

Hmm.. Well since you have built the custom template yourself, there really isn't going to be anyone that can help you much. All I could suggest is maybe contact one of the Template kings here at Unity to see if they can help you.

does the custom template that you customized yourself not have any documentation as to what you changed? i suppose you could do this, if it were only CSS that you modded, you can run DIFF on the CSS files from 7.0.3 against your CSS files, this will give you some inkling as to what was changed by you to customize your template.

now ok you have that locked down

now looking at the 7.0.3 DIFF 7.0.4 CSS

and DIFF 7.0.3/modules/boonex/forum/layout  --> 7.0.4 /modules/boonex/forum/layout

if you do not know what files you edited, there is not much hope in any of us knowing what you edited. SVN baby, develop in SVN

alternatively and as the last resort so at least you are making progress, load UNI template on 7.0.4 and start customizing again. this time document your work and use SVN

Templates can be upgraded by doing the following.

All scripts in your current template need to be updated. Remove templates\templatename\scripts and replace it with a updated copy from templates\tmpl_uni\scripts

Any changes made to any scripts for your custom template will need to be done again. Most templates do not.

The forum is the most difficult.

Your origional template was made by creating a copy of modules\boonex\forum\layout\uni and naming it modules\boonex\forum\layout\yourtemplate name

You will need to do that again. So backup your current template layout first.

So copy modules\boonex\forum\layout\uni to modules\boonex\forum\layout\yourtemplatename and then edit modules\boonex\forum\layout\yourtemplatename\perams.php and replace the 3 occurances of UNI with yourtemplatename

Then copy your css from the current template backup to the new copy.

Well designed template will work on most of 7.0.x version.

"Well designed" - when template override only necessary css classes, php classes, xsl templates, images. Template system is designed the way to eliminate templates upgrades - but it require some mental effort from template creators.

Unfortunately some designers copy almost all code from "base" folder even if it stays unchanged. The good way is to include only changed code from base templates.
