best way to customize your template is just to use the current uni template and just change all the pictures in the templates/base/images/ folder and the css files or purchase a custom template there are some good ones out there and for the $20 or so dollars they cost your time would be better spent adding content and getting started with Google webmaster tools :O)  so your site is indexed for the seo ...

Thanks but we want to have our custom background etc, we will get someone to do it for us so we can focus on content etc. Do you know how I can find out the size to use?

templates/base/images/body_bg.png <<<<< folder where your background image should be put

templates/base/css/common.css if it looks like this      background-color: #FFFFFF;

place this

background-image: url("../images/body_bg.png"); you might have to give it a background-repeat:no-repeat;

{

under background-color:

background-image:url('body_bg.png');
background-repeat:no-repeat;
}

use this if you have a complete picture that you want to show

place your back ground image here templates/base/images/body_bg.png <<<<replace with your own picture title and extension

the extension of the image and the image title are the name and extension type of the picture you are using
