cd /var/www/vhosts/mysite/periodic; /usr/local/bin/php -q cron.php
this is the default cron suggested by dolphin on install using plesk parallels
i then get bombarded with emails saying /bin/sh: /usr/local/bin/php: No such file or directory
also with this setting i cannot install modules on the site.
I get a bad gateway error from nginx
I normally use cpanel for dolphin installs on my server, but am working on another server with plesk
anyone can help?

I think I managed to get the cron to be accepted, but now getting this error continously
PHP Warning: getdate(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'Europe/London' for 'BST/1.0/DST' instead in /var/www/vhosts/website/periodic/cron.php on line 127

great. now I just get
504 Gateway Time-out
nginx
both admin and front end!...

You need to specify a timezone in /etc/php.ini. If that doesn't work, set one under the webspace's PHP settings. BoonEx Certified Host: Zarconia.net - Fully Supported Shared and Dedicated for Dolphin |
I use Nginx as my webserver with Dolphin so maybe I can help. I am not using it was Plesk; just a straight dedi with Webmin.
What are you using for PHP? I use php-fpm. Yes, you need to find the section in php.ini with the timezone setting and set it to the timezone you wish. Then you need to restart php for the new setting to be applied.
The gateway timing out is because Nginx is having an issue communicating with php; it is NOT done the same way as it is done with Apache. Let me know if I can be of any help.
Geeks, making the world a better place |
thanks.
I set the server time but it wasnt restarted (apache) so just done this.
Hopefully this will solve it!
Will find out shortly..

I assume that you are running Nginx as a proxy server to Apache? Geeks, making the world a better place |
I guess so. I was getting a time out error before saying nginx
I have another server that I run using cpanel, and all works well on that.
Just got another one using plesk for the company Im building websites for now, but a few setup issues!
The plesk one is a 'managed' server which means I don't have root access, unfortunately the waiting time might be down to weekend staff to get any changes made!
Basic access via parallels only.

there isn't an etc folder at root. there is with my cpanels server but not with plesk.
I dont have access to root either as its a managed server...

I'm not referring to your webspace's /etc directory, but the server one. If you don't have root access, you'll need to contact who does, because only they can make the needed server changes. The most you can do is change the PHP settings for the webspace.

I had a similar issue and what fixed the problem was correcting the path.
I am with GoDaddy on a VPS and the path to PHP is NOT "/usr/local/bin/php" but "/usr/bin/php"
Hope that helps.

I did change to
cd /var/www/vhosts/website/periodic; /usr/bin/php -q cron.php
already which is when the timezone issue cropped up. have requested the host to change it as I don't have access to root.
hopefully that will fix it

So just because you opted to pay for management on your sever they locked you out of shell access for the server? I find that strange but then I have never opted for paying extra for a managed server. As for Plesk, I had it for all of a day before I had it removed from the server; the only control panel I need is webmin.
If the browser page had Nginx on it, then that meant Nginx created the page; or would highly suggest that it did. However, you mentioned Apache. It is important to known exactly how the server is set up and the roles that Apache and Nginx are playing.

From my experience, most management options for servers means the host has root access, and you have user access at most. They don't want you or anybody else messing around and causing problems for them to fix. Besides, if you order a managed server, it's usually because you don't have the means to do it yourself.
Plesk can use Nginx as a proxy or to handle PHP. More information on the Nginx 504 error with Plesk is available on the Parallels KnowledgeBase: http://kb.parallels.com/en/120210. But as this is a managed server, there's nothing anybody here can do. Daihlo, please contact your host and also forward them this KB article so they can make the necessary changes.

Then our job is done. Answer to the problem is contact the managers of your server.
Geeks, making the world a better place |
done that thanks.
my own server I have root access and manage myself, although the hosts (hostforweb) have always been more than helpful.
this was a separate server for the company I currently am working at so I opted for managed, as I have more than enough work without this additional job to do!
It does look like I will have to wait until they sort it though.
Nathan, can you send me a link for your hosting also please as I have a Dolphin site that may shortly need its own dedicated.
Interested in what you can offer over HFW
Many thanks all :-)
