I am using D7.0.4. I need to create a Moderator so he can add news/articles/Blogs/Groups etc and approve/delete them accordingly - I just want to give him limited access rather than giving him Admin access. Where in the Admin I can set that up?
Also, does the moderator access the same link domainName.com/administration to maintain the site?
Thank you.

you can add some privileges to your moderators via membership only! But they can't login to your admin panel PS: If possible do not write me personally, please try to ask on the forum first |
So we can make a membership
Moderator and include all moderators on it
i see
cool

Use Deanos tools, you can assign any member to admin level, just wanna make sure you totally trust this person

see if that helps ManOfTeal.COM a Proud UNA site, six years running strong! |
hopefully we get comprehensive admin moderators membership levels with restricted access to backend in 7.1 as of now modertor possibilities are veeery limited and site cant be basicly run in nprofessional way because of nonexisting modertor levels with limited backend access :-( |

Maybe 7.1 will include this option

Thanks all for the feedback!
First, I need to know how a moderator can login to Admin Panel, is it thru the same admin link as follows: www.domainname/administration/
Secondly, how/where in the Admin Panel you add privileges? Is there a documentation/screenshots that have these steps.
Thank you.

Can someone reply to my last thread please. Thanks. |

You can setup a "Membership" for moderators and give them some authority but a moderator can not log into Admin Panel.
There is No place in admin panel to give privileges to a moderator,. You can setup a Membership level Admin --> Settings ---> Membership Levels
And create a membership called "Moderator" and choose what privileges they have (limited privileges)
Also you can do as Newton27 stated;

Thats the thing morroco - your created modertor CANT login to admin unless you make that person FULL ADMIN with same access in backend as you have and this is veery risky thing - even very trustful person can accidentaly mess up something in backend and than you are screwed. Im pointing out the fact about missing comprehensive moderator levels with limited backend access (set by super admin) for a long time but still nothing happened. There is couple of ticket in 7.1 which should make moderator levels more comprehensive but there is no ticket about access of moderators to backend with possibility restrict access to mods and components of dolphin - hopefully somebody can add that ticket finally. There should be available 3 separate user levels for administration of site. Moderators with no backend access, Admins with limited backend access, Superadmins (owners of site - superadmins can set what admins can access in backend/frontend) . SO I hope this will be added in 7.1 |
Thanks Rhimpr & everyone for your input. Now, I am able to create a role called MODERATOR and assigned the desired privileges to it accordingly. But the most important priviledges I was looking for such as ADD NEWS and ADD ARTICLES are not there, I did see DELETE NEWS and DELETE ADDs, but not adding them. Is there a way to add these privileges?
Thanks.

You need some minor alterations to your files to allow this. I have video tutorials to help you mrpowless.com |
Mrpowless, can you please provide the direct link to your tutorial, I visited the site but I couldn't find it.
By the way, you have some cool tutorials. Job well done indeed !
