Creating a module

Hello, I'm using version 7.1 and i'd like to create a module that satisfies specific needs in my website. I checked the article in the wiki, but the simple module attached with the articles "bloogie.zip" fails to install complaining about compatibility. Are there any up-to-date tutorials that can guide me? thanks in advance.

try changing the 'compatible_with' version number in the install/config.php file to the correct version
