Corrupt HTACCESS FIle

I have been working on a site for about 7 months now.  I have it where users have to be activated by me when they login.  I am just curious how my htaccess is so jacked from spammers?  I KNOW that this is a Dolphin issue with Spammers attacking it, but I am surprised they were able to compromise my htaccess file. =(

THanks Ted

Spammers cannot change your .htacces file. That file normally has a mode of 644 or 664 meaning only your account or group should be able to write to it.

If it has been changed then your servers security has been compromised.

Thanks Deano as always with the quick response.  It currently has a permission of 644.

It was hackers, not spammers... but the .htaccess was redirecting to a spammy site.

Per Tracy's wonderful help I just copied and pasted the HTACCESS information out of a brand new D7 site I installed today.  Sometimes the overwhelming support on this site is wonderful!

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
