Confused Newbie Help.

Hi all, well..... Embarassed Ive just installed the latest Dolphin and everything went fine, everything looks good and members can join fine.

Things is, My admin name and password doesnt work, and ive doubled checked to make sure im using the correct one, but still no joy.

i was wondering if this was anything to do with getting a free licence so i can get in, i havent a clue how to do that, or how to impliment it when i get it. (cant get into the admin panel) Oh and if its important, tha admin name is 4 letters no special charators and my password is 7 again no special charators.

Im having a look in my server files at mo to see if i can find the php file with the configure data on (admin name and password, but cant seem to find it, does anybody know where this is. (it's usually config.php ) but in this case i dont think it is

Any help would be great.

Look into your database under admins table, if there is a admin created.. if not I know there is here somewhere on the forum a little tool with you can make or reset this.

Hi, if you mean in my cpanel, then yes, evrything is ok, ive had a member join and uploaded a photo, so my DB is connecting fine. its just that i cant log in as admin on dolphin, jst tells me the user name and password id is invalid. Does anybody know which file in the instaltion on dolphin carries all the admin details, usually is config.PHP  and that tells you the DB details, as well as the admin detail for the site. Cant seem to find that anywhere

Thanks

make sure you are logging in at mysite.com/admin, and not the root - a mistake I have made several times.

Restore or change Admin username and password

Login as admin: yourdomain.com/admin

Thanks guys, sorted it now. I never knew you had to get into your admin with www.yoursite/admin, ive been trying to get in from a members point of view. That bit of php code worked a treat too. Looks like the admin name hasnt to be shorter than 5 letters, or it doesnt work. Nothing in the install script though that pulls you up on it, just carries on regardless.

Thanks again

Considering how many posts there are with admin login problems, I have to say that I'm very surprised that dolphin doesn't automatically provide information during the installation for password lengths, default admin login locations, etc. These are basic things that one must know and not everyone would automatically have enough experience to figure it out for themselves (hence the many posts about the subject). I sure hope that the developers embed a little bit more "must have knowledge" during the installation process of version 7.

I agree with this, not evrybody has the experience of a place like dolphin, it works like an extended forum but has a backend like a web site. Its the simple things that would make dolphin seem less confusing for those new to dolphin without throwing up all these needless problems simply because of a lack of a proper free manual, like login via /admin/ which is not made clear at the start, same with the passwords, not only do passwords that are too long fail, so do those under 5 letters too, but there is nothing in the install scripts that stops the process and tells you to alter it.

Dolphin needs a proper "free" manual, one that covers all you need to know to get going properly, the one's ive seen are cut down, half finished, lots of information missing, seemingly to make you buy the book of the dolphin manual, which is for sale.

It doesnt take long to get to grips with dolphin, but to begin with,it can become confusing for no good reason, and its only because of the good people on here that ive been able to move forward.

Sorry, I thought for sure that you would have found this by now. It's been referred to, here in the forum too. Anyway, see if this link won't be able to help:
