Translations work through the use of language keys.

Dolphin ships with en.php and ru.php language files.  To translate a module, you have to include the language translation for that module.  Then you should be able to recompile the language for the module.  Someone asked about adding a translation to the forum awhile back.

I don't think the categories work with translations, they are added as direct text to the database.  This would be especially true for the categories added by users if you have that enabled (you have to do a code hack to disable it; there is a free market module by Modzzz that describes how to disable it).

I may be wrong on this but I think categories is one area of Dolphin that is not translatable.

Your not wrong. They cannot be translated. And the fact that users are able to create categories is the reason why. Boonex could add translation to categories, but they would have to remove users ability to create them to make it feasible. Other wise a site admin would have to spend countless hours translating custom categories entered by users every day. On an large site, that would become a full time job.

Thanks Dean.  Actually, I considered the whole user categories thing to be a problem.  I could see having a million users creating categories on a daily basis as something that could quickly get out of hand; just for blog posts if a million users created three new categories each....  So I disabled the ability for members to add categories and simply polled the members as to what categories were needed.

That's what i did too. I added fields in the modzzz category tables and that way i can add or edit in admin module category form the translation parent and sub categories. So if members change to other lang then en they have the translated category.
