Can't write to site....

Ok, have no idea how I did this. None of my RSS feeds work. I can't log into my chat room (but I can access my admin chat), my member menu has disapeared.... It's just weird. It's driving me batty. I do not have any idea what happened....

I can still go to the site, but I try and post in my spywall and nothing happens. It's like i can't write anything to the site.... My member menu is gone from the bottom of the page but i can access the admin page just fine by going to /administration.php

Help?

Also noticed none of my world maps seem to be populating?

The first thing I'd try would be to turn off all caching, and clear all the cache directories.  It's the only thing I can think of that can go nuts all by itself.

Ok, here's some weird stuff for you. I have my domain names hosted at register.com. I then assign the DNS from HFW.

ns1.townation.com and ns2.townation.com

Now here's the weird part. The IP I assigned to the ns2 keeps defaulting back to the IP it used to have when it was at Register.com.

So the first one is 64.202.xxx.xxx and the second one is 291.27.xxx.xxx ?????????!

What in the sam hell is going on?!?!

Can you access it by ftp?

That cached js file could be trashed.  You really need to delete the cache directory files.

Yeah, I can access it through cpanel just fine. I've already dumped it twice. I suppose i could try again.

No change. It has something to do with that weird IP address. Some kind of propagation issue

Submit an offer of $10,000 and see what happens

Since I don't like leaving questions or posts unanswered/incomplete. I found my issue.

I bought my domain name through Register.com. In fact, I have about 30 of them that I store there for different reasons. Townation is one of them. I just change the DNS to my HFW server and all is well.

Recently, I moved my office. I own my own Windows 2003 server and have several smaller projects on it. The move means a change in IP address.

I was going through the different domain names updating and correcting the IP's on some of them when I accidentally defaulted the DNS settings for Townation.

In my panic, I went in and forwarded them to the IP's for the server, then realized I needed to actually redo the DNS changes. click, click, and several mouse clicks later I had made changes in minutes  that generally take 12 to 24 hrs to  propagate.

This resulted in the correct IP for NS1 and an incorrect IP for NS2 for most of the day yesterday.

It was weird. Some of my members were getting the register.com splash page and some could view the site but could not interact with it at all....

Of course, once a little time passed, the problem finally resolved itself and all is well.... (whew! Don't call me to put out a fire, I'll haul the hoses in before I hook them up to the hydrant!)
