Can I raise the quality of video to 100%? from avi

I have some really good quality .avi videos and when I upload them, a lot of quality gets lowered. I tweaked everything I could in admin section, but is there another way? I basically need the video to look like it just got recorded with a high end movie camera. My 184mb video got condensed down to a 13.28mb video. Any way to keep EXACT hd video quality?

Ignored as well?

It's a conspiracy. Or maybe nobody had the time/means to look up the answer.

Just to be sure, are all the video quality options set to their max under the Flash app settings? Other than that, the only way I can think to do this is to mess with the command line FFmpeg options in the header.inc.php file for the video app.

This is a good question and I see no settings in the Video settings of the module for quality.  Of course one would need to increase the file size for uploads and in the video module to handle the size of hi-def vids.

This might be hardcoded into the ffmpeg.exe, I don't know.  ffmpeg.exe is doing the video processing so if there are no settings elsewhere, my guess would be to look there and to read up here: http://www.ffmpeg.org/

OK, I see Nathan mentioned settings in header.inc.php.

Video quality options are under Administration -> Modules -> Flash Apps -> Video Player -> Settings. The hard-coded FFmpeg command line options are mostly variables stringed together in /flash/modules/video/inc/header.inc.php.

Edit: Then I guess I'll do the same?

I have also looked at the settings and see nothing about quality in those settings...Perhaps I missed something and saying there are a series of settings in like saying there is a safe but no combination...

It appears to be a question that has been asked numerous times but goes unanswered...

HI DEF BABY HI DEF INDEED...Once you go Hi Def you can't go back...

My guess is the default bitrate as set in flash\modules\video\xml\config.xml which is set to 512. which i am guessing is in K

But HD has a much much higher bit rate then that. So that's where i would start would be to boost up the bit rate.

I don't have time to be conducting tests right now, but that would be where i would start.

But i can tell you this. It will take a lot of horse power to process videos that are upped from 512 to 5000 or even higher than that for some HD videos.

Unless you have a dedicated server, i would not try to go to high.

The question is what is it you are wanting to do?  If this is for members to upload and process hi-def, perhaps a different solution.  If members are creating hi-def videos, perhaps they should do the processing locally and upload the post-processed file.  Then what is needed is a way to "embed" these videos into their albums.  Of course if you are going to have a lot of hi-def, 720p or higher, blu-ray quality perhaps, streams going on at once, you are still going to need the server to handle them.  And you would probably won't to move to Nginx; there is a reason that HULU uses Nginx as a server, it is better suited to this type of content.

I really just want for my video's to be seen by my clients in Hi Def.  2048 would not process the video but 1024 was quite nice and process a pretty big video. I do have a dedicated server...  ANYthing but substandard video... It is nice to see the riddles this use to be are now in the settings...

So how are the processing times?  What file size settings in php and in the video module?  For our site, we want members that do serious videos to be able to upload those videos and stream them.  One of our features is that we don't place adverts on videos; I hate that with YouTube and there use to be a FF plugin to remove them but it no longer works.
