Bug? Fresh install and caching

Fresh install.

1. Only modules installed:

HTML5 Audio/Video Player

Videos

Photos

2. Clear file cache.

Register as a new member in different browser.

Date of birth field show no drop down box to select date.

3. No login box appears after clicking on Login link at very top right screen as well as Login link in promo box. UNI template, tested on IE and Firefox.

Have to go to join page to use login box.

4. Clicking on Videos on navigation bar. Click on ‘Upload button does nothing. Same thing with Photos. Cleared cache multiple times.

5. Unable to switch to video comments under 1 album.

5. Go to Cache settings and uncheck all caches.

6. Upload button, login, switch to video comments, upload button works again.

As you can see, clearing file caches multiple times via admin do not work. Must disable caching for some functions to work.

7. Then I emptied /public_cache/ and /cache/ and visited few pages.

Check directories again. /public_cache/ is empty. /cache/ has multiple files of db_sys_xxxxxx and one sys_options_xxxxx file. All my directories have correct permissions.

Clearly caching is not 100% disabled.

Default Date of Birth uses a javascript date picker, just click in the field and it should pop-up.

Was this a manually install or one of those install through cPanel.  I just redid an installation where someone used cPanel to add Dolphin and most things would not work.

He has a server with Zarcon so I doubt it was an auto installer.

Dedicated server: CentOS Linux

Did you re build your server?

When you turned off the cache options, did you also disable JS cache/compression? This looks like a corrupted JS compile, which can happen in some cases. Disabling JS cache/compression is the remedy.

Only thing rebuilt was the apache configuration which was done last week but I doubt it. I remember having the same problem last november with my first install until I disabled all caching. Apparently it had something to do with corrupted JS cache/compression.

Please, no auto installers for me :)

Hi Nathan, we cross posted. Thanks for posting a ticket in the trac in regards to the DB cache.

@guynuked - please could you provide link to the site with cacheing enabled and all the problems to investigate the issue ?

It's a private site that's password protected as it's still in development as well as another copy of fresh install with same issue. You can't see it from the frontend. You can try clearing cache in /cache/ folders. Visit a dolphin web page and 10 instances of db_sys_xxxxx and 1 instance of  sys_options_xxxx always appear in FTP.

db_sys_xxxxx is not really accurate enough. There are a couple dozen different database cache files that all have different file names.

After you clear the cache, refresh the folder in FTP. You should see the time stamp has changed.

Even with all caching options off, there will always be 11 db_sys caches, 1 mm_sys cache, and the sys_options cache. That is normal. All dolphin sites keep those cached. The time stamps will change when you clear tho. Because they are regenerated. That fact is not a bug. It's by design or at least i believe it's by design. In any case, it is not the cause of your current issues.

All of your problems appear to be because the jquery library is not loading. So it is related to JavaScript. With all catching off, no JavaScript files are cached. So the fact that cache files still appear after you clear the cache does not apply in this case anyway as none of them are js files.

So if all caching is off, and you still have those issue, one of the JS files must be damaged, or your host has server side caching installed, or your using a 3'rd party caching service such as cloudflare.

Oh, and also. Try a manual clear of the following 3 folders. cache, cache_public and tmp.  Not just the cache folder.

However. I still think your fresh install is faulty. I am pretty much positive 1 or more files is damaged.

Deano, thanks for clarifying that 11 db_sys caches, 1 mm_sys cache, and the sys_options cache will always be regenerated so false alarm, it's not a bug but made to be that way.

This happened on 2 installs, one 7.1.4 copy from November then new download copy from boonex last week in regards to javascript so it's not just one copy. Disabling caching via admin solves the problem. I want it to be disabled anyway while in development.

If disabling does solve it, chances are only the JS cache option is the one causing the problems. It should not be nessary to disable them all. But as the site is under development, they should all be off until it's finished anyway.

It is also quite common. JS caching does not operate properly on some servers. On fresh installs it is normally server side. On copies that have been working previously then it is normally a 3'rd party JS script that was installed that does not work when compressed.

Anyway, it is a common issue with the JS caching and in that case you just turn it off.
