Assistance needed for Facebook Connect

I have created an account on Facebook and used it's API in in Dolphin Admin. When the user select Facebook Connect from login drop down it redirects to facebook page and ask for joining. This is the only thing which is happening till now. Please let me know am I on right track or not and what will happen after, what should I do now, and what all we can do with Facebook Connect...?

Thanks

Provide a screenshot of what you see. What your suppose to see when you select the facebook connect dropdown is a facebook login screen. Unless user is already logged into facebook.

If not, then either the app on the facebook side was not properly setup, or the api and secret keys were not properly entered. Extra spaces at beginning or end of the key is a common problem when copying and pasting.

The purpose of facebook connect is to allow members to quickly create a new account on your site using the information from their account at facebook. It saves the time of filling out a long join form. So what is suppose to happen is new member selects the facebook connect from the login auth drop down. They are redirected to facebook where they log into their facebook account, Then facebook passed their account information back to facebook connect on dolphin. If member already exists in dolphin, member will be logged in. If member does not exist, a new account will be created using the facebook account information.

A lot of websites use social network signup methods. I am surprised you have not encountered websites in the past that have this. Most nowadays do.

Hello Deano,

Thanks for the reply. When a user selects Facebook Connect from the drop down it redirects to Facebook Login Page, it's working perfect. Please see the screen shot # 1,2 for this. After this when user do login from his/her facebook account it redirects back to Dolphin (My Site) with the some account information.

I checked one of your link (http://www.deanbassett.com/) where it's in working state there it gave the default password as well. But on my site users are supposed to set their passwords.

Apart from this I would like to know like can a user share his/her facebook updates like photos/videos/posts etc on my site and vice versa.

Because on your site (http://www.deanbassett.com/) I also created an account there it asked to share facebook photos on your site, but after that when I did something in my facebook account it doesn't show anything on your account...

On my site. I use my own facebook connect. Not the boonex version. So mine functions differently. http://www.boonex.com/m/Deanos_Facebook_Connect_Version_2_0 and what it does and how it functions all depends on how you have it configured. On yours for example, if it's sending information back to the dolphin join form, then check your settings. It would mean you have it configure to go to the join page. Change it to something else.

Mine however have more features. A lot more. To see the boonex version in use you would need to test on someone else site. I don't use that one.

However none of them synchronize data between facebook and dolphin or vise versa.  Thats not what facebook connect is for. Facebook connect is for creating accounts and logging it. Nothing more.

For anything else you need to look for mods in the market that do what your looking for.

Many thanks for the help Deano. If Facebook Connect is only to the get the account info from facebook, then I think it's on the right track. Can you share the link of the mod (if you have handy with you) which synchronize the data between facebook and dolphin or vice versa.

Yes. I provided the link to my Facebook connect. If your looking to do more than what my fb connect mod does, then you need to search the market. I personally do not use anything else.

Below is the legacy version of the Boonex site, maintained for Dolphin.Pro 7.x support.
The new Dolphin solution is powered by UNA Community Management System.
