Admin Nag is rude and unnecessary

The admin nag is rude and unnecessary and serves no useful purpose.  It exists simply to irritate users of the application.  I am fully aware that if I want to unbrand Dolphin I need to buy a license; I don't need that freaking nag screen to pop up.  Our site has a license but of course I run a test site where I test code changes before applying them to the production site; if one doesn't have this policy they are asking for trouble.  I am sick of that nag screen and would like to rip its guts out and toss them in the dustbin.  Of course I know this would violate the license but I still think about it every time I see it.  The bloody code for that thing must be hidden because I have not found it; encrypted perhaps, of course I have not looked very hard as I have more important things to do.  One of these days I will decide to remove that worthless irritating nag screen; as the adage goes, publish and be damned.

If I am not mistaken I recall reading a post about that where if you click the X to make it disappear, it will not return for a year. It's somewhat of a hack that even AlexT said would work. Something about setting a cookie time or.. ugh.. Sorry. It was posted back when that new 'nag' was implemented.

What Boonex should do is to step up and say, Yes, we need to get rid of that thing.  I am getting to the point where I hate Dolphin mainly because of Boonex and the forums here.  I am working on a Dolphin site but it is not because I recommended it to the ones that wanted the site built.  In fact, I am not sure I would recommend Dolphin to anyone; not when people are reporting issues and they are ignored; especially from those that have shelled out close to $800.00 and can not get help with issues.

Saying you would like to remove something and doing it are two different things.  I have not removed any branding or nag screens from any unlicensed Dolphin install.  If Boonex wants to drive people away from their application, then so be it.

I am not running that version of Dolphin yet; however, you are talking about the user side of things.  I was referring to the Admin nag that admins see when they log on.  It serves no useful purpose to nag the admins users of Dolphin because they know the rules, they know that a license must be purchased to unbrand Dolphin.

GG,

What I was talking about doesn't 'remove' it. It just doesn't popout anymore. Pretty much everyone has said the same thing as you regarding support here. Consider yourself lucky at only shelling out $800 (as of now). Some of us (like me) are in the $1,000s. Over the years I think I am around $3,000 (give or take a hundred) myself.

I will see if I can find it and if it will work for you.

Ahhh.. My bad. Yeah. There has to be something you can do to calm it down at least.

GG, I do have to side with BoonEx here; we no longer have the footer, video branding, (without HTML5 player you will have the BoonEx footer), chat is no longer considered here, and so forth.

I have never complained about this simple click of a link.

I fully support the purchase of a site license to all my clients that complain of this.

For me, as a site developer, it's just a simple click to get to the "goodies."

For the front of the site, my members actually think it is a "service" of the website to provide a "website of their own"..

I could care less about either one.

Look in the administration directory:

License.php

Index.php

license.html

This is NOT a helping hand to try and remove the admin license reminder but more of a way to see if it can be set to display like once a week, over to the side, or something. I personally have not tried doing anything with these files so it may not help at all.

@Newton; I guess this is one of the areas were we are different.  If the nag screen came up and then automatically went away in the time it takes me to click on it I probably would not be bothered as much.  And if there was a message saying the same at the top of the admin page it would not bother me.  It is the fact that it interrupts me that I hate the most.  I click to go to the admin section and then I have to move the cursor and click again to get where I wanted to go.  Think about this, what if you click to go to a different television channel but each time you did you had to click again to remove an advert.

I find it useful because it made me buy the license last time.

I spend 5 hours today to look around for something better than Boonex but I found none.

Consider yourselves lucky to have known Boonex, thank you mr. Boon for bringing dreams to reality.

Thank you again

Really GG? It's a simple click in the admin.

Remember your getting all this "magical" code to contort to your needs and site users "needs" of what a website should be.

When my clients are satisfied they purchase the license. No more buggers. Cool

It would be quite simple to allow for a code to be entered for a demo site!  It really should come as a part of dolphin...  EVERYONE I have ever tried to wade into it asks for a demo site they can navigate and test with their code.

It is something to think about and if abused simply have the ability to revoke the license...

LOOK this thing is a monster and anyone who is willing to play really should be able to play with a second site as long as they bought the first... People who are ADD cringe when they see warnings like that...ALL it does is take you off task...

I want a house.

So if i buy the first one, can i get the second one for free? I kinda want to test my renovation ideas on the second one before i do it on the main house.

It annoys me, just popups all freaking time Yell. I am not going to buy a license ever as the site is on localhost but still it popups up, does that make boonex happy or what?

It comes up as often that I notice it (and am kind of annoyed), but not often enough that I want to drive a tank through the town square. But hey, it's free software, and if stuff like this keeps them from limiting features, I'm all for a little nagging now and then.

Gotta pay the bills somehow, and driving someone mad enough to buy a license is an idea.

Do the free licenses not keep that from popping up?

No such thing anymore. The free licenses went out when 7.1 was released. You can't create new ones. And existing ones do not have any affect on 7.1

It would be nice if Boonex could show how annoying admins resulted in revenue.  I know that in order to provide updates to Dolphin that revenue is needed; since Dolphin is not open source, there is no large developer community willing to work on the code just for the sense of pride in providing the best damn social networking platform on the planet.  I realise that Boonex is a business; abet one with some practices that makes one wonder such as the lack of customer support.  So if annoying admins is helping to keep Boonex afloat and provide revenue to help enhance the product, then please tell me and I will be more than happy to smile when I see that annoying nag screen on my test site.

I can't believe this is even being brought up.

Out of my 5,000+ post I have never, never complained about the pop-ups, 7.0.9 footer banner, the new front side pop-up.

GG, we are webmasters and site maintenance crews. If I'm working for someone that has not bought a license, the pop-ups are NOT annoying enough to make me post and rant.

Those website owners should realize they need to purchase one.

Dolphin has become less and less present in a modified site, front or back.

80% of my clients have purchased the license, those customers also have NEVER posted here once, in YEARS if ever.

There are thousands of customers we never see.

I get work from my support sites and those clients have never been here.

I think there are more important issues than that of a pop-up on FREE software.

Come on guys and gals they know it is annoying that is the idea...It becomes so annoying you throw in the towel is the idea!  The only problem is now most people will just leave if they are not dragged into this obsession first...The first thing you want this package to be remembered by is a stunningly annoying reminder to pay up?  Not in my world you would want them to be so impressed they bring out their checkbooks...so to speak...
