Add Horizontal Login To Replace Hello Guest! Login

Ok this is something I've been trying to do for a long time and I finally just give it up and home someone like Dean, houston, tim (gorpus) or someone with more template experience might be able to toss me a bone with.  I'm just wanting to add a simple horizontal login in lieu of the Hello Guest! Login or Register that is currently displayed on every page.  Let me explain...

I want to replace this with Username: <Input Box> Password: <Input Box> (Remember me click) (Submit Button)...

When the member is logged in I want it to go back to the way it currently is (Welcome <Profile>)! Logout

I've seen other template makers do this and it would be highly helpful... Anyone willing to take the time to explain this to us little guys?

I completely respect your post SashaE and thank you for replying but is that really it?  I'm not that knowledgeable with templates this is true but I would think the answer could be found somewhere in /templates/base/cripts/BxBaseMenu.php ?  I know that I could tweak the login form itself templates/base/login_form.html but that doesn't accomplish what I'm trying to do (also I know I'm typing in Italics and for some reason TinyMCL is not letting me change it back, but that's beside the point) ...  If this tid bit of knowledge could be tutorial'd out for us guys I'm sure people would be really thankful.
