Access is denied to some modules

Hi!

I was fiddling around my new site [Link removed by request] and tried creating a new account. However, when I tried to access Photos, Files and Stores, all I got is "Access is denied" text on those pages. Let me know what I can do so users can upload files, photos and add products to their stores.

Thanks,

Sam

Have you allowed access via membership levels / actions ?

I suspect this will be your issue

I think I figured out the answer, let me know if I got it wrong.

First, I need to login as administrator then "activate" the member.
Second, I need to edit membership levels and manually "enable" some of its capabilities.

Question, is there any option to have the member automatically "activate" upon joining in? I don't see the need to manually select new members and activate their membership in the dashboard.

Thanks,
Sam

Sure !! If you look in 'advanced settings' there is an option to 'auto activate' profiles ... This will auto activate users when they join and they all auto be allowed the actions you have agreed via membership levels / actions!

Be aware that if you have custom membership levels >> every time you add new modules etc you will need to add the permissions for that mod to membership levels / actions

This pic may help. These are my settings.

I created an account on your site to test. I noticed a problem with the photos module. It's not on the menu. You may want to uninstall the photos module and re-install.

Just like in Deano's image ^^^^

Remember what I said also about setting permissions in any custom membership levels you have!

It's not a issue with standard membership >> developers auto add the permissions and you can easily change them to suit requirements ...

Guys!

I have a big problem!

After I reinstall Photos, my website is down. I'm getting the following:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getRow() on a non-object in /home/thegreat/public_html/inc/utils.inc.php on line 437

Please help!

Ignore my message above.

After I refreshed the browser, its OK now. Looks like my hosting (hostforweb.com) need to have some explaining to do.

I'm worried now. After that happened, my profile photo and store thumbnail photos are gone.

they are not at fault here.

You should have been told this first,

"when you remove any module such as photos, sounds, videos; and so on.

You need to back up the actual photos, sounds, video data from the proper folders."

e.g.

  • /modules/boonex/photos/data/files
  • /modules/boonex/sounds/data/files
  • /modules/boonex/videos/data/files

and so on..

You should make a testing site in a subdomain until you learn Dolphin a bit better.

I did not know you were unaware of this. When you uninstall a module, all data stored by that module is removed. So now you know for future reference. Sorry. You will need to upload those photos again.

There are only two members on the site so i did not think it would be a big problem to loose a couple of photos. Best to have fixed it now before you have a site with hundreds of members.

Hell yeah deano !!   I remember when I had 15K members on old build and made that mistake loosing over 20K+ images and having no backups to fall back on ... NOT GOOD!

Deano is certainly right about getting all issues resolved before you try and build on members base! Doing so will save you hrs ... weeks ... months of headaches!

Yes, this is true of each module, photos, files, videos, etc. the files are stored in the module's data directory.  When you go to look at the files, be aware that Dolphin does not store the name directly but hashes the name to help protect the files.  With photos, you will have three images created, one is a thumbnail, one is the resized image for display (the size of this image is set in the admin) and the original file which can be accessed by clicking on the "Original" button in the photo view page.
