ADV as default Search

I've seen other (old) threads about it but didn't see a conclusive answer.  Is there a way to set Advanced (ADV) as the default on the Search page for 7.1.4?

There is a way to do it but requires modification to core files. I did it before, but ended up restoring original files because of another issue and just left it as is for now. If I can remember, I will post - or hopefully someone else will. But I at least wanted you to know that it can be done.

 Thanks for the reply Prof. If you can track down how you did it I'd be interested in hearing.  Its not mission critical, but if its doable its preferable to posting instructions to the members of how to get there.

Just to spitball another possible solution, what about simply hiding the simple and quick option on the Search page only so that ADV would be the only option shown?  Is something like that doable?
