Hi there,
is there a way to add a second orca forum which has its own sql?
What I want to do is to use the second forum only as the support section of my community :-)

what i have done is used an application called TheVisionWorld --> http://www.thevisionworld.com/
they can run a customized script for you, for dolphin database share, where your members email and password would be used to login to the support module. this generates real tickets and also allows you to reply directly from your mail client.
but as for having a stand alone orca, you are getting into basically the same issues as with phpbb or vbulletin when it comes to using the database where your users are located.
in typing this here is what i thought up. yes you can do this, install a second instance of dolphin, run through the entire install procedure. so you have a stand alone second instance of dolphin running.
now you can do two things here. you can write a script that will periodically dump your profiles table, and update the profiles table on your second instance, which allows for your users to be able to login and not have to register a second time. that is what approach i would make an attempt at. since you only want the forums, then i would think the script that dumps the profiles table, would be the best option. You could create a Group called Support Group (or whatever you want to call it) and leave it open to everyone w/ Privacy Settings. Then just use the Group's Forum without having to add anything at all. |
@DosDawg thank you so much. I will look into to dump the profiles tables. I will get back in a few days. @ggsic thanks and that is surely a option but it will not look and feel as clean at some sites and my sites are more personals sites which in my point of view should have a support section away from the main page :-) Peace, Love & Understanding, Trust & Respect comes within, within a real Unity. This just came into my mind for Darren! Diddy is not greedy and has time. Dolphin is cool and its not just mine :-) |
It's possible to duplicate modules and have them act independently from their original, but it's not the easiest of tasks, and would require you going through the various files in the module to change database entries, etc. I'd recommend you go with DosDawg's suggestion, unless you truly prefer another copy of Orca running on your site.
