7.1 Groups layout needs attention...

Hopefully this won't get ignored...

7.1 has bought lots of welcome changes and improvements.

1 change that I really really don't like and unfortunately don't have the admin option to change is the layout of Groups home page...

7.0.x would show group thumbs and list them horizontal which was great.

Worked perfectly well and meant any site that focused on Groups (same for events I think?) could display 30+ on one page quite cleanly.

Now, 7.1 that option is no longer available and group thumbs are automatically stacked vertically...

This means we now get 8ish groups on display before we have to scroll to the next screen to view more... that or display a huge a really long screen in order to view any decent number.

It's a really bad layout and just doesn't work.

I could also mention the new browse.php page...which also now stack semi vertically... we now get 4 profile thumbs in a row, whereas 7.0.x we had loads...

It's almost as though these visual changes are geared up for 'small' sites with little content... not put in place with busy sites in mind.

Boonex - PLEASE allow this to change back, it's a really bad way to do things.

Thanks for the rest of 7.1 which is great, but please, this is a negative step.

Welcome April 2014,

I am working on a website which mainly revolves around a lot of Groups and it is true that we can only have few groups on homepage due to its layout style.

I hope some senior members can help us with this.

Seeming as this topic was started Jan 2003 I guess the official response is ignore it!

why don't you create your own css style for the homepage block?!

that way you can make it table inline layout and the content smaller that way you fit 3 or 4 group events next to each other.

It´s lil work but it can be done.

time...

just seems like the upgrade, visually in some areas was a step backwards.

Just as a test, I replaced the /modules/boonex/groups/templates folder with a 7.09 version, and I also replaced the /modules/boonex/groups/classes/BxGroupsTemplate.php file with a 7.09 version.

Surprisingly, it works.  http://houstonlively.com/m/groups/home/   (this is a very temporary demo)

The only problem I've seen, is that some of my 7.1.4 css may have to be tweaked a bit to make the display a little better, but it's close

My opinions expressed on this site, in no way represent those of Boonex or Boonex employees.
