I have managed to get the Join button on the homepage to direct me to a contact.php form. (thanks to the Unity member Magnussoft)
Once someone has submitted that contact form requesting permission to join, how can I make the homepage come back again once the form has been sent ?
Also for extra points;
How can I get a popup window appearing over the homepage saying "Thank you for signing up, once someone has confirmed you are a resident of this community you will receive a email which will give you access to this group"
